A Boost in EmployABility

-

NILAI University (Nilai U)’s Faculty of Business offers professional certifications to complement students’ degrees and diplomas.

These are linked to professional organisations that many students aim to join in the future, such as the Malaysian Financial Planning Council.

Students from the BA (Hons) in Accounting and Finance and the BBA (Hons) in Finance can become a registered financial planner by completing just one module (they receive exemption from six modules).

They can complete the module at Nilai U and receive the requisite training on campus, allowing them to leave as careerready graduates. Registered financial planners are entitled to apply for a financial advisors’ representatives licence from Bank Negara.

They can also apply for capital markets services representatives licence from the Securities Commission Malaysia, which is required to provide financial planning services to the public.

“A key factor in attracting students to Nilai U is the number of professional certifications that are designed to boost graduates’ employability,” explains Prof Dr Sivakumar Velayutham, dean of the Faculty of Business.

The BA (Hons) in Accounting and Finance and Diploma in Accounting are two of the most popular programmes at Nilai U.

In these programmes, students can get up to nine exemptions from the three major accounting bodies – Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW), Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) and Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA).

The latest initiative is the ACCA Accelerate programme, which allows students to complete their professional qualifications while pursuing their degree.

“Being able to complete their studies during their

3Q

The Cleary University Enhanced Degree Award Program with Nilai University, also known as 3Q, is a special programme that allows students to earn three internationally recognised qualifications if they successfully complete their Nilai University bachelor’s degree programme and Cleary University subjects.

The three qualifications are a Malaysian bachelor’s degree from Nilai University, the American Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) in Business Management from Cleary University and an American postgraduate diploma from Cleary University.

This international degree is a good blend of components to understand business in the American and Asian contexts.

“Human resources are a key component in any organisation and students from the BBA (Hons) in Human Resource Management will undergo 64 hours of training with specialist human resource trainers to prepare them for a career in this highly specialised field,” says Prof Siva.

The training is conducted by the Malaysian Institute of Human Resource Management (MIHRM). Other business students in Nilai U can also earn enhanced certification from MIHRM by completing the relevant modules. By the time they graduate, these students will have both academic qualifications and specialist knowledge in key areas, allowing them to forge an exciting career.

“We firmly believe in equipping our students with all the necessary qualifications to allow them to carve out a successful career. After all, that is the gist of higher education,” says Prof Siva.

Nilai U is rated Setara Tier 5 by the Malaysian Qualifications Agency. All of its programmes are approved by the Higher Education Ministry.
