Excellence in professional education
TUNKU Abdul Rahman University College (TAR UC) has been educating and preparing students for globally recognised professional business qualifications since 1971 with the establishment of its School of Business Studies. The school is now known as the Faculty of Accountancy, Finance and Business.
Many of its students have won numerous prizes and awards for their outstanding performance in professional examinations.
Recent inductee of TAR UC’s hall of excellence is Tan Xin Yin, who emerged top in Malaysia and third in the world for Paper P1 Governance, Risk and Ethics for the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) December 2016 examinations.
Another is Chin Jo Han, winner of the Yayasan Sime Darby prize for the best paper in Corporate Governance for the Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators (ICSA) International Qualifying Scheme (IQS) Professional Part 2 in the June 2016 examinations.
Tan graduated with a Bachelor of Accounting (Hons) and was delighted with her achievement. She credits the resources she obtained from the TAR UC library and lecturers who conducted intensive revision classes for her success.
“TAR UC’s Virtual Centre for Excellence in Professional Accountancy is another facility that was of great help during my revision, containing relevant reading materials, past examination question papers and techniques on how to answer questions in the ACCA examinations,” she says.
On why she chose to study at TAR UC, she says, “It was because of its reputation as one of ACCA’s Platinum Approved Learning Partners.
“Besides that, my lecturers are very knowledgeable in the subjects they taught and ensured that the students were well-equipped with the latest trends in the profession.”
She adds that her communication skills improved tremendously during her six-month internship programme.
A graduate of TAR UC’s Bachelor of Corporate Administration (Hons), Chin was granted exemption from all eight papers of the Professional Diploma in Corporate Administration (PDCA) programme of the Malaysian Institute of Chartered ed Secretaries and Adminis strators (MAICSA).
He wa as also exempted from four pap pers in the ICSA IQS Professio onal Part 1, providing him with h exemption for 12 out of 16 pap pers in the ICSA examina ations.
He sat t for the IQS Professio onal Part 2 of the ICSA examina ation in Year 3 of his bachelor r’s degree programme where heh won the Yayasan Sime Da rby prize for the best pap per in Corporate Governa ance. Chin is currently working g in EY Malaysia as a tax cons ultant.
“My experience in TAR UC provided me with important skills that are key in the workforce such as time management, teamwork, critical thinking and communication skills.
TAR UC students who graduate with the Bachelor of Accounting (Hons) are granted exemption from all nine papers of the ACCA fundamentals and opportunity is given to final year students to attempt the ACCA’s professional papers under a special arrangement with the ACCA.
