Classic meets contemporary
AS the oldest men’s clothier in the United States, Brooks Brothers certainly has a rich history.
Founded in 1818 in New York City, the brand has innovated iconic menswear classics, including the original polo button-down shirt in 1896 and the non-iron shirt in 1998. It has also dressed 39 out of the 44 American presidents.
Recently, Brooks Brothers held a media event at its new store located on the first floor of Suria KLCC, Kuala Lumpur. It was to mark the brand’s re-entry into the Malaysian market, now owned and headed by The Brooks Brothers Group. In attendance was Andy Lew, the group’s president of international and wholesale.
This season, the men’s range features a fresh and sophisticated palette – from regal navy blue to celadon green accented with coral, sand and heather grey.
Highlights are a multi-coloured stripe cable knit sweater over a light blue sport shirt and chinos in regatta blue.
Meanwhile, a grey and white stripe shawl cardigan is paired with a solid navy oxford sport shirt and embroidered chino shorts. Tailored clothing and sport coats are offered in solids and patterns in shades of indigo, slate and chestnut, accented with dress shirts.
The women’s collection, under the creative direction of Zac Posen, updates Brooks Brothers’ heritage with pieces that offer ease and versatility to the modern woman. Suiting options appear in traditional fabrics – glen plaids, solid grey flannel and tweeds along with a graphic botanical print – sculpturally manipulated into jackets, skirts and trousers. – William K.C.
