WHEN you’re working practically the whole day, comfort is key, but ideally it shouldn’t be short of style. The perfect outfit would be one that can move seamlessly from day to night – especially for a night out with friends or an event after office.

Enter Wilka (wilka.com. my), a fashion label that caters to busy professionals. The label is the brainchild of Katrina Ponnampalam Chia, who was previously working in the corporate industry her31-year-old self.

The says that she designs for the working woman who likes to explore with differstyles. ent According to her, this person is feminine, edgy, and has a love for self-expression.

“Wilka’s designs are perfect to be worn to the office, while stylish enough to be ready for an event right after,” explains Kuala Lumpur-born Chia, who is of Chinese-Ceylonese-Thai heritage.

The Spring/Summer 2017 collection for example, includes pieces that are perfect to be worn in the office. Each can be easily dressed up or down depending on the accessories.

“This year, ruffles are making a come back! So we’ve named the collection ‘Ruff Love’, filled with designs that are feminine, edgy and comfortable,” states Chia, about the trend she is going for.

As it is, Wilka is also all about providing comfort for ladies. One of the fabrics that the label consistently uses is both thick and thin jersey – which is perfect for the hot Malaysian weather.

Chia says that the fabric allows for the skin to breathe and is cooling. According to her, it is also ideal because it does not crease easily – perfect for everyday wear, and for all occasions.

“We take these details very seriously when we are designing. We love the use of jersey because it clings and drapes effortlessly, and is just incredibly relaxing to be in.”

On founding Wilka, Chia shares that she was inspired by her own problems of trying to dress for work and play. That was when she decided use her fashion design and retail education to start her own label.

“I needed to find a solution to the hassle of bringing along extra things, even different outfits when I have to transition from the office to social events and parties,” she points out.

Working clothes does not have to be staid though. With Wilka, think cool backless romper with knit lace details and kimono sleeves, or palazzo jumpsuits that mimic a maxi wrap dress.

“The current collection also has some fun weekend pieces, that’s where I let my imagination run a little wilder. So as long as you’re a working woman on the go, we believe we have some- Every first Wednesday of the month, Star2 will be highlighting fresh, cool fashion brands from Malaysia and around Asia.
