It’s all about the game
FOUNDED by Malaysian badminton enthusiast Michael Lee, Michael’s Badminton Academy (MBA) aims to be the hub of private badminton training at the international level to produce world-class players.
This year, the academy is celebrating 15 years in the industry.
Lee explains how it all came about: “Previously as a contractor, I travelled outstation frequently. I always looked for venues to play with the locals and noticed a lack of badminton facilities.
“In 2001 when I was with my family at the Taman Megah pasar malam, I saw a ‘Land for Rent’ sign – that was the starting point of MBA. Till now, I always promote Perpaduan Melalui Sukan (Unity Through Sports) to the people I meet.”
MBA has four centres – three currently in operation in Taman Megah, Port Dickson and Bukit Puchong. MBA also provides transport to and from these centres.
MBA believes in all-rounded holistic training. While highly focused on technical and practical skill development, its junior training programmes also incorporate off-court education to ensure well-rounded development physically and mentally.
MAB managing director Lee Kok Choong comments: “At MBA, we are constantly promoting the concept of healthy living and the importance of sports as a lifestyle.
“We believe in Creating Champions for Life – being the best you can be in life through mind, body and soul.”
When it comes to player training and development, Lee says the most important thing is attitude.
He adds, “We are constantly improving the programme to make it more relevant, working with professionals/trainers within the industry to ensure that we can groom our students to become real Champions for Life.”
When it comes to the future, MBA is looking forward to opening more centres in more townships.
