Tailored to professional needs
CURTIN University’s Master of Petroleum Engineering programme is a master’s conversion course that provides students with a multidisciplinary education in petroleum engineering.
The course is tailored for engineers who do not have any formal qualification in petroleum engineering but have honours degrees in relevant engineering disciplines from a recognised institution.
It is also available to graduates from other disciplines who have relevant work experience in upstream oil and gas industry with considerable exposure to core technical areas such as drilling, completion and production engineering and/or reservoir engineering.
At Curtin University, Malaysia (Curtin Malaysia), the Department of Petroleum Engineering of the Faculty of Engineering and Science is committed to providing the oil and gas industry with quality graduates.
Curtin Malaysia is the largest international campus of Western Australia’s Curtin University. It has more than 4,000 students from close to 50 countries.
In addition to offering the same courses and degrees as its Australian parent, it provides an undifferentiated student learning experience and Curtin’s strong learning support mechanisms such as online resources, distributed learning systems and access to i-lectures in Perth.
Curtin’s Master of Petroleum Engineering is a full-time, 18-month programme taught over three semesters, with four 25-credit units taught per semester.
Students must complete three semesters or 300 credits in total to receive the Master of Petroleum Engineering award.
Local students have the option to study part time for 36 months over six semesters, with two 25-credit units taught per semester.
One of the best features of the programme is the close industry links forged with companies such as Petronas, Shell, Nippon Oil and Technip.
In addition, students can complete fully Australian Curtin degrees at Curtin Malaysia at around a third of the cost of completing the same degree in Australia.
Curtin Malaysia continues to create new learning spaces equipped with the latest technological advances in teaching and learning to increase student engagement, foster collaboration between

The university’s new fourstorey Faculty of Engineering and Science facilitates the two-way delivery of materials between the Curtin campuses as it has the capacity to build bi-directional links in teaching and research that are the hallmark of a genuine global university.
Application for the July intake of Curtin Malaysia’s Master of Petroleum Engineering programme is in progress.
