Be part of a global music community

-

MALAYSIAN musicians can now apply to be part of next year’s Red Bull Music Academy (RBMA).

Scheduled to be held from Sept 8 to Oct 12, 2018, the month-long music workshop and festival series will celebrate its 20th anniversary in Berlin, the city where it all began back in 1998.

Each Academy offers new insights and perspectives on sound as artistes representing different genres, countries and eras come together. In 2018, 60 up-and-coming musicians will be selected and flown to Berlin to embark on a creative journey that has been described as life-changing.

Takahara Suiko (pic) of local indie band The Venopian Solitude became the first ever Malaysian RBMA alumnus last year, and she calls it the “opportunity of a lifetime”.

“I got to learn from the likes of Thundercat, Kaytranada, as well as Arcade Fire’s Win Butler, and I strongly encourage you to participate,” said Takahara.

At the Academy, participants will hear lectures from artistes who have shaped music history, exchange knowledge in all-night sessions in custom-built studios, and collaborate with peers from opposite corners of the globe.

The Academy also simultaneously organises a month-long series of public concerts and club nights all across the city.

Malaysians can download the application form from www.redbullmusicacademy.com.

The closing date for entries is Sept 4. Each applicant must also submit a musical demo, no longer than 30 minutes. Selected applicants will be notified in early 2018.
