Studying psychology in the UK
MATILDE Boccanera is a second-year BSc Psychology student at King’s College London. She shares her education journey:
“The second half of the second term of the second year of my BSc Psychology degree had arrived. Summer was near, course work deadlines were approaching and the hours spent in the library writing essays were gradually increasing.
Putting aside my tiredness, I felt some sense of excitement when I finished one of my longest essays, written for my Contemporary Issues in Neuroscience module. It offers the chance to reflect on multiple aspects of modern neuroscience. Specifically, it focused on finding evidence-based theories that supported respectively two opposite ideas concerning human behaviour.
As I had researched this topic extensively for an extra-curricular psychology programme, I relished the opportunity to amplify my knowledge on this contemporary topic. Planning the essay turned out to be a surprisingly creative and artistic process. This essay was a personal highlight for me.
After a few months, an exciting opportunity came my way. Our psychology department recommended we submit our written work to ‘The Undergraduate Awards’, which recognises top undergraduate work, shares this work with a global audience and connects students across cultures and disciplines.
There are 25 categories representing a broad range of academic disciplines. The work is anonymously assessed by a panel of international academicians and industry leaders. The best work (judged as the top 10%) is shortlisted as Highly Commended and the top submission in each category is deemed Global Winner.
