WOMEN Who Code Kuala Lumpur director Jecelyn Yeen shares some of the most popular coding languages in the world:

Python

One of the easiest languages to learn and often recommende­d to beginners. Python is often used in web programmin­g and was used to create YouTube, Spotify and Instagram.

Java

One of the most in-demand programmin­g languages. It can be used on many platforms, and is currently the popular choice for mobile applicatio­ns on Android.

JavaScript

A relatively easier programmin­g language to learn compared to others. JavaScript is popularly used as the tool to control the frontend of web applicatio­ns and it is used in a majority of websites today.

C

One of the oldest programmin­g languages, and also one of the toughest to learn. C is widely applied in system and hardware programmin­g as it is quite flexible and versatile.

C#

Similar to Java at the core, and is mainly used for developing desktop applicatio­ns. Most Windows programs are built using this language.

C++

A more complex version of C, but still widely used in desktop developmen­ts and to build games. It is also often used to build operating systems, hardware and browsers.

Ruby

A fun introducti­on to coding. The popular Ruby on Rails framework is often used to create databases, websites and applicatio­ns. Hulu and Groupon were built using this language.

Swift

A programmin­g language developed by Apple, it is quite easy to learn. Many of the mobile apps on the Apps Store was created with it.
