PROFESSIONAL hearing centre 20dB Hearing opened its 19th branch offering free hearing screenings and hearing aid home trials to people who are hard of hearing and are curious about how wearing the device can improve their hearing.
The centre is located in Bayan Baru and managed by senior audiologist Yap Chia Ling.
In conjunction with 20dB’s 15th anniversary and year-end offer, its campaign will allow clients to have free hearing screenings and hearing aid tryouts for 20 days.
“An audiologist will run a hearing test to determine the hearing threshold level and type of hearing aid suitable for the client, and programme it for him or her to try at home.
“This is to enable the patient to see how a hearing aid looks like and how it can help a hearing-impaired person,” Yap told reporters during an interview.
She pointed out that there is a misconception among those with hearing problems that hearing aids are noisy and cannot help improve hearing.
“A lot of hearing-impaired people are scared of wearing a hearing aid because they do not know whether the device can help.
“Then there are also those who have previously purchased a hearing aid, including through online purchases, and found that it was not suitable for them. They are unable to use it but cannot return the hearing aid,” she explained.
In view of this, Yap said the campaign allows the hearing-impaired to test the device in the comfort of their home before they commit to purchasing one that is suitable for their lifestyle and budget.
