Taking care of your tyres
THE wheels on your car are the most important component of your vehicle.
For example, making sure that you maintain the right tyre pressure regularly assures that your vehicle will be more fuel efficient and reduces unnecessary wear and tear thus prolonging the tyre’s service life.
There are other measures you can take to insure your tyres last as long as they should and save you money from unnecessarily buying new tyres so often.
And most importantly, it will also ensure the safety of your vehicle for you and your occupants.
Tyre Inspection
Make it a point to check your tyres periodically for cuts, chips, embedded objects and unusual bulges as a preventative measure against tyre failure.
Check Tyre Inflation
Checking the pressure of your tyres should be done when the tyres are cold. Tyres usually have wear indicators which appear across the groove of the pattern when the 1.6mm limit is reached.
Maintain Correct Air Pressure
Under inflation and over inflation can result in premature tyre failure.
Check the Balancing
If you experience excessive vibration stemming from your tyres to the steering wheel, have it checked by a qualified technician as it causes discomfort while driving and stresses out the vehicle’s suspension.
Check the Alignment
Get the wheel alignment checked periodically to avoid uneven tyre wear.
Rotate your Tyres
Regularly rotating your tyres between the front and rear axles will help you achieve more uniform wear and longer overall tread life.
Changing Tyre Sizes
Consult your tyre technician before changing your tyres or rims to a different size as it can effect the speedometer readings on your car.
Spare Tyre
Most cars come with a space-saver spare tyre which should not be used over longer distances and speeds above 80kph. Get a replacement at your nearest tyre outlet.
Avoid Tyre Mixing
You are advised to avoid mixing different tyre types of different sizes and ratios as it is dangerous.
Silverstone Atlantis V7
Looking for a passenger car tyre that maintains superior grip in wet and dry conditions with a longer tread life and low noise levels?
Silverstone has introduced the Atlantis V7 that features an asymmetric tread pattern to reduce the risk of tyre slip by 30% on a wet road surface.
The Atlantis V7 brakes 7% shorter than standard tyres during wet conditions and tests under specific testing condition.
Also, there are a host of innovations to provide you with a quiet, safe and comfortable driving experience.
The Atlantis V7 features large shoulder blocks outside to increase rubber contact for better cornering ability.
Air flow breakers are featured to disrupt the flow of air in the grooves and reduce noise.
There are more lateral grooves on the inside of the tyre to disperse water effectively for better grip.
The Atlantis V7 uses Silent Roll Optimiser Technology which consist of variable-sized patterns on the tyre to achieve the lowest levels of tyre noise.
The tyres are available from series 65 to 35 and tyre sizes ranging from 15- to 19-inch.
Check the availability of the tyres at the nearest Silverstone distributor outlet.
