Choose the right fish oil
FISH oil is rich in omega-3 fatty acids, which are important for your health. However, not all fish oil supplements on the market are the same and provide good clinical benefits. What we want from fish oil supplement is the omega-3 not the fish fat.
Fish fat may be a risk to your triglycerides (a type of fat in our blood) and can cause the risk of indigestion and gastric reflux. Therefore, determining if you are taking a regular fish oil, concentrated fish oil or pharmaceutical grade fish oil can make a huge difference.
The main criterion of pharmaceutical grade fish oil is the purity of the omega-3 must be at least 85%.
One should not be confused between the amount of omega-3 and the percentage of omega-3 in each capsule. High amount (such as 600mg, 900mg and such) is merely referring to the content of omega-3, but not the purity. These fish oils are not good enough to be used as treatment (therefore, not accepted as a pharmaceutical grade fish oil) because there is a high content of fish fat in each capsule.
Imagine that you are consuming a capsule of 1,200mg fish oil containing 900mg omega-3. It means you are putting in 300mg fish fat into your body, which may be a risk to your triglycerides.
A pharmaceutical grade fish oil must contain at least 85% of omega-3, which only has barely minimum fish fat. The purity of omega-3 determines the quality of the fish oil.
Another good reason to have such high concentration (in percentage) of omega-3 is to reduce the risk of indigestion and gastric reflux.
How about enteric-coated fish oils? The purpose of enteric coating is to prevent fish burping and to reduce the potential damage to omega-3 by stomach acids.
A regular fish oil pill will dissolve in the stomach about 15-20 minutes and once it dissolves the oil can rise to the surface and possibly cause burping.
An enteric-coated capsule will not dissolve in acidic environment, it simply moves along untouched past the stomach to the small intestine.
Usually, enteric coating is a sprayed-on layer on the outside of the capsule using methacrylic acid copolymer, a synthetic material – people do not like to put such things in their bodies. So, it is important to ensure you eat only enteric coating materials that are made of natural plant-source materials.
There has been now a new innovative technology to solve these problems – Enteripure soft gels, developed by Natural Factors, Canada. These soft gels offer targeted delivery to the small intestine using a technology that embeds the natural plant-sourced enteric ingredients into the soft gel casing itself to prevent the soft gel from breaking down in the stomach, improving absorption and ensuring no fishy aftertaste.
Features and benefits of pharmaceutical grade fish oil with Enteripure:
– 80% to 90% omega-3 with only 10% to 20% non-omega-3 oils.
– Easy to get high doses of omega-3 with fewer pills, like the dosages used in clinical studies.
– Repeated molecular distillation required to get its high purity removes virtually all toxins and heavy metals like mercury. Ultra-purity reduces fishy odour.
Choose a pharmaceutical grade fish oil to enjoy its clinical benefits for your heart, brain, liver and joints. Be a smart consumer today.
