SUNWAY International School (SIS) opened its doors to secondary school students in January 2008.

Since then, SIS has grown to two campuses – an international secondary school in Sunway City and a new campus in Sunway Iskandar offering kindergarten to grade 12 education.

SIS was established following the success of the Canadian International Matriculation Programme (CIMP) at Sunway College. It is the first and only Canadian curriculum international school in Malaysia.

According to the Programme for International Student Assessment, the Canadian school curriculum is consistently ranked top among education systems in English-speaking countries.

SIS also offers the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP), which is globally recognised for admission to universities worldwide.

SIS’ motto is “Nurturing Minds. Building Character.” The school holds true to its commitment to student-centric teaching and learning, developing performance-oriented mindsets, and ensuring students’ holistic development and overall well-being.

The school’s curriculum is delivered by certified Canadian teachers and its IBDP programme by IB-trained teachers.

Teachers pay attention to students’ learning and nurture them to be happy, wellrounded individuals. In the academically rigorous curricula, students are encouraged to learn beyond classrooms and textbooks.

At SIS, teachers help students enjoy learning and develop 21st century skills such as communication and collaboration.

Character education and community service, which are key aspects of the Canadian education system, are central to what students and teachers work on at SIS.

SIS students have various opportunities for leadership development and university preparation. An example is SIS’ partnership with the Center for Asia Leadership to conduct the Asia Leadership Youth Camp for students aged 14 to 19.

The camp is led and facilitated by teaching fellows from Harvard University and other renowned universities.

Since the inception of the Asia Leadership Youth Camp in 2015, SIS has been offering it as an annual event for its students as well as students from other public and private schools.

SIS offers extensive extracurricular programmes to students to hone leadership skills and talents.

Students are encouraged to discover their interests, talents and strength through different sports, clubs and societies as well as spearhead new initiatives under the guidance of their teachers.

Thus far in its 10-year journey, SIS has been recognised for its delivery of highquality holistic education.

SIS was the winner of the Reader’s Digest Trusted Brand Award (Malaysia) in the Private or International School category in 2015 and last year.

In 2015, SIS also received five stars for excellence in the Standard Kualiti Institusi Pendidikan Swasta (SKIPS) rating by the Education Ministry.

This year, the Malaysia Canada Business Council awarded SIS with the Business Excellence Award at its 25th Anniversary Business Excellence Awards ceremony held in conjunction with Canada’s 150th anniversary celebration in May.

The award affirms the quality of SIS curriculum, teachers and students’ performance.

SIS is part of the Sunway Education Group, owned and governed by the Jeffrey Cheah Foundation.
