Timetable for success
COME September, a new school will be set up in Cyberjaya, Selangor, delivering a British curriculum complete with British teachers.
The King Henry VIII College (KH8) is a sister school to Christ College Brecon, one of the UK’s oldest schools and has been in existence for nearly 500 years.
Like its sibling in the UK, KH8 will deliver a curriculum that prepares students for the future.
Building from the early years to the moment of graduation, the curriculum is more than a map or a menu, it is the makeup of the school.
Mathematics all add up at KH8 – thanks to small class sizes, which mean the ratio of teachers to students is one to 10.
The maximum class size will be 24, with far fewer than that for the majority of classes.
In primary and early years, all classes will have a teacher and a teaching assistant, with specialists for the key areas.
In English, KH8 places a high value on literacy in the digital world.
Its qualified, experienced teachers – about three-quarters of whom are from the UK – will together maximise the development of language acquisition among the students, from the youngest to those applying for top global universities.
As well as top-teaching in English, KH8 also will provide expert language teachers as language is intrinsic to the expression of culture and identity.
KH8 students will be proud of who they are, and the school will value its cultural and social mix, and ensure children keep their languages strong – a great asset for future careers.
Christ College Brecon has just been graded “excellent” in all five inspection areas by Her Majesty’s Inspectorate.
Key academic areas include attitude to learning as well as teaching and learning experiences.
This is a foundation and tradi- tion of excellence on which KH8 will build.
This history of inspiring students to believe in themselves is central to the college’s ethos and the standard by which it judges its own achievement.
KH8 will certainly add to the global educational picture in SouthEast Asia.
Its location in Cyberjaya has effective transport links and its own bus network, so getting to school is easy.
The shared DNA of KH8 and Christ College means understanding about growth and development, and the way a school can best function.
This is a formula for success: a strong bond between teachers and students, and a vibrant community working together for common aims.
The whole curriculum will offer a digest of what KH8 is about.
Like the music taught at the college, harmony comes from practise and performance working together.
Subjects like drama builds confidence and presentation skills.
Sports and activities on the other hand, ensure KH8 students stay fit for life – they remain resilient and determined with the stamina to thrive in the world they will move on to.
