MECHATRONIC is the hinge of innovation bringing huge advancements in technology to drive Industry 4.0 – it is the interface of the future.

Tunku Abdul Rahman University College (TAR UC), being at the forefront of providing industry-relevant education, offers qualification in Mechatronic at Diploma and Bachelor degree level.

Its Mechatronic programmes are meant to fully equip students with engineering knowledge in terms of proper applications and principles of Mechatronic Engineering to solve practical complex engineering problems.

Priority is also given to ensure students are able to design and develop solutions for the future and able to apply technical expertise through laboratorybased, project-based and research work activities.

Shawn Daren, currently in his second year of the Bachelor of Engineering (Hons) Mechatronic programme, shares his experience, “Mechatronic is very challenging but fun. When I researched programme fees, I find TAR UC’s the most competitive.

“What I learnt in diploma has strengthened my foundation in understanding the subjects in degree. I also had the opportunity to do a robotic arm for my diploma assignment. It was very challenging but I enjoyed the process of configuring and trouble-shooting the complex problems with my team members.”

Lim Hui Yan, another Bachelor of Engineering (Hons) Mechatronic student, is in her last semester at TAR UC.

Her study experience is not only interesting but also keeps her on her toes to ensure she is always updated on the rapid technological developments, “What I studied in Diploma in Technology (Mechatronics) has helped me tremendously in my degree.

“Meanwhile, what I am studying in my degree has constantly exposed me to the up-to-date technologies in the field of Mechatronic and I especially enjoyed the assignments, which require a lot of problem-solving such as when my group decided to build our own drone.

“I also did two research assignments on the relationship between Industry 4.0 and Mechatronic and the findings I gained were not only informative but also very exciting.

“I am especially indebted to the lecturer I met during one of the Open Days. Despite my average results in SPM Physics, he strongly encouraged me to study the Diploma in Technology (Mechatronic) as the syllabus is well structured, easy to understand and meant to build a solid foundation in students.”

Both students are also active members in the Mechatronic Society – every student pursuing their diploma or degree in Mechatronic at TAR UC are enrolled automatically.

“One thing I will miss when I leave TAR UC are the activities organised by the society,” says Lim.

“I feel very fortunate for the opportunity to join study visits to factories such as Motorola and Sony as well as being a mentor to help and encourage my juniors.”

Shawn is constantly on the edge of his seat when it comes to activities organised by the society, “So far, I enjoy attending the workshops and talks on Mechatronic and participating in competitions such as the Robotic Championship.

Besides enhancing our knowledge on Mechatronic, the society also aims to equip its members with other important skills. This is why the society is currently gearing up for a game challenge called the TAR UC Survival Game: Apocalypse where I am in charge of publicity and marketing.”
