THE Management and Science University (MSU) presented a book series and an online continuing professional development (CPD) content at the launch of its inaugural Certificate Course in Social and Administrative Pharmacy.
Jointly organised by the School of Pharmacy with MSU’s training arm, the Continuing and Extended Education Centre, the Certificate Course in Social and Administrative Pharmacy is the first of its kind in Asia.
The book series What You Should Know
About is the result of the collaboration with the University of Science Malaysia.
The seven-title series presents the subjects thalassemia, osteoporosis, obesity, Alzheimer’s disease, understanding generic medicines, adverse drug reactions and safe disposal of medicines.
MSU’s CPD content “Good Pharmacy Practice (GPP) in Dispensing” is now app-enabled via the university’s collaboration with SwipeRx.
A consolidated channel for the largest digital community of pharmacy professionals in Asia, the pharmacy-practice mobile application also hosts accredited CPD educational modules recognised by the Philippine Pharmacy Association and Ikatan Apoteker Indonesia.
Among those in attendance accompanying the MSU president at the three-in-one launch were the vice-president of the Medical and Health Sciences Cluster, as well as the deans of the School of Pharmacy, the International Medical School and the Faculty of Health and Life Sciences.
Also present was the senior vice-president for Research, Innovation, Technology and System.
In his officiating address, MSU president Prof Tan Sri Datuk Wira Dr Mohd Shukri Ab Yajid lauded collaboration as the way to go for the university of the future.

Together with the university’s industry-embedded academic programmes of study, collaborations enable the inter-professional education necessary to effectively meet IR4.0 challenges.
Guest speakers at the Certificate Course in Social and Administrative Pharmacy included the president of the Malaysian Pharmaceutical Society, Amrahi Buang, who delivered his presentation on social ethics in pharmacy; the head of Partnerships and Alliances at mClinica, Lindsay Nickel, who spoke on strengthening the pharmaceutical practice through technology, collaboration and education; the professor of Social and Administrative Pharmacy from the University of Science Malaysia School of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Prof Dr Mohamed Azmi Ahmad Hassali, who presented the contributions of social pharmacy towards quality use of medicines; Professor Dr M Haniki Nik Mohamad from the Malaysian Academy of Pharmacy, International Islamic University Malaysia, who presented the roles of pharmacists in the smoking cessation programme; and Dr Aris Widayati from the Faculty of Pharmacy, Universitas Sanata Dharma, Indonesia, who examined the behaviour aspects in adherence to medication regimen.
With its “Advancement of Social and Administrative Science Trailblazing Towards Optimum Health Outcome” theme, the MSU Certificate Course in Social Administrative Pharmacy 2018 sought to advance its participants’ knowledge and education, across humanistic as well as scientific disciplines, in meeting new pharmaceutical challenges of the healthcare system.
The MSU’s School of Pharmacy offers the Bachelor of Pharmacy (Honours), Bachelor of Science in Pharmaceutical Technology (Honours), Bachelor in Traditional Chinese Medicine (Honours), Diploma in Traditional Chinese Medicine and Diploma in Pharmacy.
