Idris Elba calls Malaysia ‘a beautiful country’
ENGLISH actor Idris Elba was in town early last week to launch Malaysian magazine, Unreserved.
The 45-year-old, best known for his performance in The Wire, Luther, Beasts Of No
Nation and the Thor film series to name a few, attended the magazine’s launch party at St Regis Kuala Lumpur.
“It’s a beautiful country, and I would love to come back,” Elba tells the magazine, summing up his visit to Malaysia.
The Golden Globe-winning actor is slated to appear on Unreserved’s May cover.
The glitzy event saw local personalities including Tan Sri Tony Fernandes, Joe Flizzow, Stephen Rahman-Hughes, Sarah Lian, Kavita Sidhu and Roberto Guiati in attendance.
English-Iban TV host-turned-actor Henry Golding also graced the event. Golding, who is on this month’s issue of Unreserved, will make his Hollywood debut this August on the Jon M. Chu-helmed Crazy Rich Asians.
Unreserved’s chief executive officer and editor-in-chief Kassandra Kassim shares her vision for the magazine: “Our redux issue represents our first baby steps towards realising a goal of becoming a platform for an intelligent South-East Asian voice that tells our stories and contextualises global events that affect our region.
“We here in this room, represent the middle in a world that is wrought with polarisation, our voice of understanding and acceptance is diminishing, and we stand for that.”
