Goodbye, old friend

- – Kenneth Chaw

WHEN New Girl wrapped its sixth season, there was a likelihood the show would never come back. The fate of the show wasn’t made known to the cast. Zooey Deschanel, who plays its lead Jess, tells ET: “It would have been OK if (it ended with ) Season Six, (but) I would have wanted to know at the beginning of Season Six, so that we could properly say goodbye.” Thankfully, the comedy about four housemates will return for one last season but with only eight episodes instead of the usual 22. “I’m really happy we had a final season and we knew it while we were shooting it.” She teases about the seventh season: “I feel like we covered a lot of our classic sort of scenarios in the last season. The writers did a good job. There are a lot of Easter eggs.” Co-star Jake Johnson reveals in an interview with AOL: “They do a lot of episodes where people get to come back. So it was like, ‘Hey, this guy! I haven’t seen you since Season Three!’” Johnson, whose character Nick is in an on- and off-again relationship with Jess, says he will miss acting with Deschanel. “I’m not going to be able to act with her ever again, unless New Girl comes back and does a reunion thing. But Zooey and I can’t be in, like, an indie movie together where we play, like, Roger and Michelle. People will be like, they’re doing New Girl as an independent movie?”

New Girl Season Seven airs every Wednesday at 9.30pm on Foxlife (Astro Ch 711).
