A Series Of Unfortunate Events Season Two

-

THERE was so much to love about the first season of this series, which is based on the books by Daniel Handler.

Neil Patrick Harris was a delight as Count Olaf. From the outlandish outfits to his over-thetop acting, Harris stole the show from start to finish.

The three child actors who played the Baudelaire orphans (Malina Weissman, Louis Hynes, Presley Smith) held their own opposite the seasoned Harris who has years of experience hamming it up for the camera.

However, in Season Two, the adage “too much of a good thing” rings true.

Suddenly, the plot seems predictable and repetitive. The shine that Harris brought to the role has dulled. And the comic effect that was so spot on in the first season seems trite.

As you can tell, in this season – based on the next five books in the series – the orphans are moved from one guardian to another, with the Count hot on their heels devising plans to kill them in order to inherit their fortunes. Luckily for the orphans, lady luck is always on time to save them from being murdered.

But unfortunately for us, the viewers, this series has just become a big yawn. – Gordon Kho
