Pushing for higher ground
The upcoming 15th Cammies sizes up the best and the brightest in local arts.
A political play about a farm animal revolution (translated into Malay). three showcases of indian dance. A classic story of the collapse of an old chinese family. these are among the eight local performing arts productions that have been nominated in the Best of 2017 awards at the 15th Boh cameronian Arts Awards (BcAA) this year. the award show, presented by Kakiseni and Boh plantations, will be held at the Hilton Kuala lumpur on June 28.
this list spans Music, Dance, theatre and Musical theatre.

You’re A Good Man, Charlie Brown (Sifu productions).
on June 28, three shows will be picked for the Best of 2017 prize.
Each will receive Kakiseni’s support and endorsement, including pitching to prospective sponsors and development programmes (for arts producers and practitioners). they also stand the chance to attend the performing Arts Market in Seoul (PAMS) in october. PAMS is South Korea’s premier contemporary performing arts event, as well as a platform for Asian and international performing arts professionals.
“it is gratifying to know that all the work that was put in for the creation of our production of The Pillowman is being celebrated as one deserving of the attention,” says christopher ling, artistic director of theatre-three-sixty, which staged The Pillowman.
“i’m definitely honoured and can’t hep but be happy for the whole Sifu team, cast, crew and everyone involved. it’s really a great validation to all our efforts,” says Freddy tan, director of You’re A Good Man, Charlie Brown and founding member of Sifu productions.
Nominees for the category Awards were also announced. these awards recognise artistic excellence (by individuals or groups) in specific areas of performance and creative production. the winners will receive a trophy and RM1,000.
Among the nominees are Angkur Ensemble’s Ankur: Under The Kayon Tree, which is nominated for five awards in the Music category, and Klpac’s Magical Musicals, which is nominated for two. in the Dance category, TFA inner Space Dance company is up for four awards, while oriental Art and cultural centre’s Body Area is nominated for six.
in the theatre category, the Actors Studio Seni theater Rakyat’s Kandang and pat ibrahim project Entertainment’s Bangsawan Dendam Laksamana have both received four nominations. While in Musical theatre, Sifu production’s You’re A Good Man, Charlie Brown has seven nominations, and Fame, by the Actors Studio teater Rakyat and Monday Show Entertainment, has five.
