A top achiever’s secret to aceing law

-

ADVANCE Tertiary College (ATC) student Hon Yee Neng is currently among the Top 3 students in Malaysia for the University of London Bachelor of Laws programme. Hon shares what she has learnt and how you too can be a top achiever:

“Personally, the most difficult part about studying law is getting your answers to stand out. At times, understanding concepts can be hard, but trying to analyse it in a different light can be all the more challenging.

“You need to be passionate about law if you really want to embark on this journey. There’s quite a lot of reading, memorising and understanding to get in touch with the subject. During the exam period, I wake up at 8am and study till noon. After taking a nap till 3pm, I then continue studying until night. At times I stick around the library until 9pm.

“As I am hoping to be a human rights lawyer in the future, I am currently interning at Jerald Gomez & Associates. I realise that it does indeed take quite a lot to be a lawyer in your own right, which is the reason I stress on the importance of perseverance.

“During my A-Levels course, I had a lecturer who continues to give me moral support. He is just one of many lecturers who are not just dedicated, but know my classmates and I through and through. Due to the small size of the school, you tend to get very close to your lecturers at ATC and they get to know you very well in turn. They can give you the best help and direction you may need in your studies.

“My mum originally pushed me towards pursuing my A-Levels course at ATC, since it specialises in law. Her support has gone a long way.

“However, what most people tend to overlook is that your support system needs to be yourself as well.

“When it comes to studies, ATC gives you the proper lecturers, lecture notes and everything. What you need on your own is mental strength to stay grounded. The problem with external students is that with only one exam per year, they have to stay really focused throughout, since the urge to procrastinate can be very strong. Moreover, since it’s 100% exam-based, it can get a bit lonely sometimes because everyone is studying on their own.

“ATC, compared to most universities in Malaysia, has a small community of students and lecturers – you feel very much at home.

The lecturers are all very focused in their subjects too, since ATC specialises in law and business. ATC helped me excel – and it can help you, too.”

To be a top achiever in law like Hon, enrol now at ATC to make the most of your dreams and education, all at the right price.
