Strike Back films in Malaysia

CINEMAX’S action-packed drama Strike Back is filming its sixth season in Malaysia. According to a press statement, all of its 10 episodes – starring Warren Brown, Daniel MacPherson, Alin Sumarwata, Jamie Bamber and Yasemin Allen – will be shot here.

Strike Back first aired in 2010 with an entirely different cast before a reboot which features different actors. In Season Four of the series, Tan Sri Michelle Yeoh made her TV debut as the season’s antagonist.

In an interview for the role, Yeoh said she was impressed with how Strike Back didn’t rely solely on action to move the story forward and instead looked in creating complicated characters.

Strike Back follows a highly classified unit in the British military intelligence called Section 20. Members of Section 20 go to different parts of the world to conduct high risk missions.

Season Six begins with a Russian bomber crashing in the South China Sea. The covert special-ops soldiers of Section 20 are sent to investigate. This leads them to Malaysia.

Under orders of the new commanding officer, Colonel Alexander Coltrane (Jamie Bamber), Section 20 works alongside the Malaysian police to shut down a triad gang in Kuala Lumpur. At the same time, they also uncover a corrupt plot involving a wealthy businesswoman running for Parliament as well as take down mercenary drug agents in Myanmar.

Jack Lothian, writer and executive producer, said in the statement: “We’re delighted to be back with a new season of Strike Back.

“We have fantastic actors and crew members who work incredibly hard to provide bigscreen action for the small screen, with all the drama, high stakes, and mayhem ... I can’t wait for the audience to see the twists and turns we’ve got lined up.”

Seasons One to Four is available on HBO On Demand (via Astro GO). – Mumtaj Begum
