BMW Group Malaysia unveiled the venerable M5 (F90) during this year’s BMW M Track Experience at the Sepang International Circuit (SIC) last month.

The new premium performance sedan is priced (on-the-road without insurance and GST) at RM942,760, and comes with a fiveyear unlimited mileage warranty with free scheduled service programme.

The car comes with five colour options of Marina Bay Blue metallic, Donington Grey metallic and Singapore (dark) Grey metallic.

The new F90 model that replaces the outgoing M5 (F10), weighs in at about 1,855kg (kerb) (-90kg) and has a 2,982mm (-18mm) wheelbase while measuring 4,965mm-long (+55mm), 1,903mm-wide (+12mm) and 1,473mm-tall (+22mm).

The 4.4-litre (4,395cc) S63B44T4 twin-turbo V8 engine is now more potent and delivers 600hp from 5,600 to 6,700rpm and 750Nm (+70Nm) from 1,800 to 5,600rpm, allowing it to sprint from 0-100kph in 3.4 seconds.

The 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 engine of the older F10 produced 560hp from 6,000 to 7,000rpm and 680Nm of torque from 1,500 to 5,750rpm.

The new M5 uses a M xDrive allwheel drive system with two driving modes of 4WD and M Dynamic mode (4WD Sport with DSC off or 2WD).

An eight-speed M Steptronic automatic transmission comes with better durability, paddle-shifters and three Drivelogic shift modes.

As an optional extra, a M Carbon Ceramic Brakes package at RM95,000 with gold-coloured callipers is offered and will help to shave 23kg off its kerb weight while providing better deceleration and considerably less brake fade.

For handling, the new M5 uses an aluminium five-link axle adaptive M suspension system with variable damper control.

Infotainment comes from a 16-speaker Harmon Kardon surround sound system and a 600watt digital amplifier connected to a 10.25-inch colour touchscreen with gesture controls.

This also includes BMW ConnectedDrive services which consists of Intelligent Emergency Call, Teleservices, Concierge Services and Remote Services.

There’s also active cruise control with start-stop functionality, driving assistant, lane departure warning, lane change warning, approach control warning, person warning, crossing traffic warning (rear) and collision warning (rear).

Other additional options include a Performance Pack (RM30,000 sport exhaust system, M Carbon engine cover and M seat belts), Advance Safety Pack (RM15,000 driving assistant plus and M carbon ceramic brakes) and an Entertainment Pack (RM55,000 Bowers and Wilkins Diamond Surround Sound system and rear seat entertainment system).
