Learning to appreciate psychology

-

THE Psychology Club of International Medical University (IMU) recently organised a Psychology Week at the Atrium of its Bukit Jalil campus.

The theme of this year’s event was “Get Psyched!” with the aim of inspiring people to embrace and appreciate the importance of psychology in their daily lives.

The event was graced by IMU vice-chancellor, and CEO and IMU Health president Prof Abdul Aziz Baba.

“In a way, we are all psychologists because we spend every day analysing and making sense of the world around us,” said Prof Aziz in his speech.

Around 200 students visited the atrium and participated in this year’s Psychology Week. There were 11 booths, which included social media addiction screening, Through the Looking Glass photo booth, five senses experiments and spreading positivity corner.

There were also other exciting activities aligned with the theme such as a Scavenger Hunt and the Tree of Hope.

The Tree of Hope, constructed by the newest cohort of psychology students, added an interesting element to the event.

It was decorated with colourful ribbons which had wishes, dreams and positive messages written on them.

Students were encouraged to write kind and uplifting messages to themselves and others.

One of the most exuberant features of the event was the flash mob performance presented by IMU’s psychology students from all cohorts.

Psychology Week 2018 was a great success due to the hard work by the entire psychology family of IMU. It was an event filled with excitement, energy and positivity.

As 2018 marks the 10th year anniversary of the psychology programme at IMU, this year’s Psychology Week was extra special. It set the benchmark for future Psychology Week events, which will only get bigger and better with greater aims and missions.

The three-year Bachelor of Science (Hons) Psychology at IMU, Malaysia’s first and most established private medical and health sciences university with over 26 years of dedicated focus in healthcare education, offers a curriculum that has been developed to meet high international standards.

Students have the option to complete the entire psychology degree at IMU or study part of the programme here and transfer to University of Newcastle, Australia, or the University of Strathclyde, UK, for completion of their degree.

The degree is accepted internationally for further specialisation at the graduate level.

Students are required to complete their undergraduate degree in psychology, followed by a master’s degree in one of the specialised areas of psychological practice to become a qualified psychologist.

Intakes for the psychology programme are in February and September. If you enjoy thinking about the causes of human behaviour and desire to help people manage their problems, apply now for a great start to an interesting and exciting career in psychology.

Those who have just completed their SPM and do not have pre-university qualifications can consider enrolling in the oneyear IMU Foundation in Science (FiS), the direct route for entry into any of the university’s local degree programmes.

Find out more about the foundation programme during the FiS Info Day on June 9 at the IMU campus in Bukit Jalil.
