THE Malaysian Association of Tour and Travel Agents (Matta) will donate RM1 to Tabung Harapan Malaysia for every visitor to the Matta Fair in Kuala Lumpur.

Matta chief executive officer Phua Tai Neng said in a statement that the move is to help in the effort of addressing the financial situation in the country.

“Matta, as Malaysia’s leading travel association is pleased to join other Malaysians in donating to the publicly funded THM to support the cause and strengthen the nation’s financial situation,” he said.

Phua added that the association will continue its role in supporting the Government especially in tourism.

He reiterated that the tourism industry is the the second highest contributor in terms of foreign exchange earnings and third in terms of contribution to the gross national income.

Tabung Harapan Malaysia was set up by the Government on May 31 to help reduce the country’s debts through donations. Within 24 hours of its launch, the fund received over RM7mil.

Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng said that Malaysians can make donations to the fund, which he assured would be managed “systematically and transparently” by the ministry.
