Too late for regrets

-

ONCE there was a mother who had a son she had to raise on her own because his father left them soon after he was born. She did everything she could to love and raise her son.

Time passed, and the boy grew up into a young man. But, he took his mother for granted. He would ask his mother to prepare everything for him, including ironing his clothes, making his meals and washing his laundry. But his mother never complained.

One day, after cleaning the house, the mother was exhausted and rested on the sofa.

When her son woke up, he complained that the house was untidy. Instead of comforting his mother, he scolded her. She felt sad.

Suddenly, she fainted and fell. Her son ran to her aid but it was too late. His mother had passed away. Tears streamed down his face. Only then did he realise his mistake.

Soon after her funeral, he came across his mother’s diary.

It wrote: “To my dear son, if anything ever happens to me, I still love you. I know one day you will regret your actions. Don’t worry, you will always feel my love wherever you are.” – By Vibusha Santos, 12.
