Champs in FinTech Challenge
A TECHNOLOGICAL revolution is taking place within all industries, including the banking and financial sector.
With new, revolutionary financial technologies (FinTech) being introduced every day, SAS Malaysia, in collaboration with the Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation, organises the SAS FinTech Challenge to encourage students and academics in Malaysia to contribute ideas and develop innovative solutions to enhance the banking experience.
The SAS FinTech Challenge 20172018 began last October with the submission of 82 concept papers from various local institutions. Only 20 papers were shortlisted for the semi-finals.
Among the 20 semi-finalists was Asia Pacific University of Technology & Innovation’s (APU) Team SOMEROLA, which comprised APU students Elisha Yeo, Muhammad Akbar Husnoo, Sailalith Sarupuri, Seetaram Chandrashekhar, Tan Kok Sheng and Yashna Sayjadah.
After a series of workshops and hands-on training sessions conducted by SAS Malaysia, the team advanced to the national grand finals in which they emerged victorious and walked away with a cash prize of RM50,000.
Representatives from Maybank, CIMB Bank, Hong Leong Bank and Public Bank were on the judging panel at the grand finals.
Team SOMEROLA was mentored by Dr Kadhar Nowshath and Prof Dr Vinesh Thiruchelvam from APU’s computing, engineering and technology faculty.
