Looking at things in a new light

-

LOOkS may be important, but well-being comes first. Hollywood celebrities can afford to hire plastic surgeons to cheat time, but ordinary folk have shallower pockets.

Most people can do little besides watching helplessly as wrinkles, fine lines, pigmentation spots, cellulite and other signs of ageing start to accumulate and “deface” their physical appearance.

Instead of moaning about how quickly time passes, celebrate the fact that you are well and tackle things more positively.

Do something about it

Good looks can help open many doors, but growing older does not mean the end of the world. Take consolation in the endless array of products and services you can turn to.

Looking good usually involves beauty professionals offering new-age technology designed to improve a person’s complexion and polish up their image.

So, instead of being bogged down by bad skin, lacklustre hair, tired bones and thinning hair, take the first step towards boosting your looks and spirit by making an appointment with a beauty or wellness centre.

Face up to it

It is certainly not pleasant to discover greying hair, wrinkles and saggy skin when you look into the mirror. But you can learn to age gracefully by accepting the fact that ageing and all the unpleasant things that come with it are part and parcel of life.

If you have been eating too much or too little, stop and make the effort to eat sensibly and healthily instead.

If you are always feeling weary and lethargic, start an exercise regime to build a healthy and attractive physique.

When you exercise regularly, your endorphin (happy hormones) levels rise and you will feel fitter with consistent effort. The adage “if you feel good, you’ll look good” certainly applies here.

Lead a more fulfilling life

Instead of being overly concerned about growing older and losing your looks, strive to do what you can to keep yourself happy, healthy, content and at peace with the world.

So, take time off from work and do things that boost your well-being.

Strengthen your bonds with family and friends, spend time on hobbies you enjoy, do charity work, help someone in need, learn something new and try to be a better person. Do whatever fills your life with joy. — The Straits Times / Asia News Network
