Alleviating knee pain
HERE’S a common situation. Mum has osteoporosis and was suffering from knee pain, which made walking and standing for more than 10 minutes a painful chore.
Doctors put her on painkillers and NonSteroidal Anti-inflammation Drugs (NSAIDS) together with calcium and magnesium supplements. She was taking up to 12 pills a day.
The pain was more bearable but after one year, blood tests showed inflammation of the liver and kidney, which was attributed to the NSAIDS.
It was then decided that Mum is to stop using drugs altogether and try alternative natural therapy. Powder glucosamine were popular at the time and the gold standard. This was helpful for a while but the pain came back and mum was diagnosed with osteoarthritis (OA). Walking even short distances was painful and thereafter, she did not want to go out much and stayed home all the time.
On a visit to the US, some medical friends were reviewing a new treatment for joint problems. The clinical trial on undenatured type II collagen made from chicken sternum has been very encouraging.
This is made from natural wholefood and clinical trials by reputable institutions like Harvard University and Stamford University showed great results for treatment of OA and Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA).
Mum tried incorporating wholefood calcium and wholefood magnesium harvested from seaweed from Ireland for her bones. It worked great for a while, but she still complained of tightness around the knees even after consuming two sachets per day.
Doctors suggested painkillers for the inflammation but she chose the natural route using ginger extract and peppermint essential oil. After about four months, mum no longer stays at home and is off travelling overseas, pain-free and loving her newfound freedom.
