Advancing in law

-

ESTABLISHED in 1987, Advance Tertiary College (ATC) aims to give individuals from all walks of life the opportunity to secure a world-class legal qualification, mainly through the University of London’s Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree programme.

This 3+0 course enables undergraduates to study locally and graduate with a credible international legal qualification from the University of London.

“Attaining an LLB degree through the University of London International Programmes is indeed a prestigious achievement.

“It has helped launch many of our graduates’ successful careers, not only in legal practice but also other non-legal and highly competitive spheres, both locally and internationally,” says ATC’s chief executive officer and principal Dr Danny Choong.

In the LLB examinations held in May last year, Siah An-Gel (pic) from ATC Kuala Lumpur won the Malaysian Laws Scholarship, which

gave her the opportunity to complete the final two years of her degree at King’s College London.

Also known as the King’s Scholarship, this scholarship is awarded yearly by the University of London to any Malaysian student who scores the highest marks in year one of the LLB.

Coming from a family with a non-legal background, Siah confesses that her ambition was to study in the medical field. “Law was not my initial choice of study. There are no lawyers in my family. Growing up, I never had the opportunity to converse with anyone of such background,” she says. Little did Siah know that she would find her true passion in law. “Law was one of the subjects I took when I did the Cambridge A-Levels at ATC and it was then that I became intrigued with the subject matter.”

After attaining outstanding results in her A-Levels, scoring 3As, she was convinced and determined to pursue her LLB degree with ATC.

“I chose ATC because I was attracted to its internal merit scholarship scheme. It gave me the impression that this institute prioritises quality education,” says Siah.

“My time at ATC was an amazing one. It was where I had the privilege of meeting great people and amazing lecturers. This is the place that ignited my zeal for law.” In September last year, Siah began her second year of LLB at King’s College London towards achieving her aspiration of becoming a litigation lawyer.

The March intake for ATC’s LLB programme is in progress.
