Developing successful leaders

-

HENLEY Business School, which is part of University of Reading, offers students a range of world-class degrees that can give you the competitive edge employers look for.

The school’s Malaysian campus is located in Iskandar Puteri, Johor. Students are given the opportunity to study at the United Kingdom campus in Reading for a portion of their degree.

Henley Business School is among an elite group of international business schools to receive triple accreditation by Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business, EFMD Quality Improvement System, and Association of MBAs, all of which recognise the quality and capability of the school’s faculty and output.

As part of University of Reading, it operates within an academic institution that is among the top 200 of all universities globally, according to the QS World University Rankings 2019.

Nurturing students to become successful leaders has always been a focus of Henley Business School. The school endeavours to empower individuals into becoming qualified professionals and outstanding business leaders who think with clarity and act with confidence and conviction.

One student who has shown such exemplary leadership ability is Leon Choong, a second-year real estate degree student at Henley Business School Malaysia. He chose to enrol in Henley Business School because its real estate degree is ranked the best in the UK.

“I want to be a registered valuer and practise in Malaysia. The Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Real Estate is accredited by Board of Valuers, Appraisers, Estate Agents and Property Managers and Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors.

“This means I will be able to practise in Malaysia and most Commonwealth countries once I pass the Test of Professional Competence from those organisations,” says Choong.

Choong is one of many University of Reading Malaysia (UoRM) students who chose the fast track to undergraduate degree level by enrolling in UoRM’s Foundation in Business. He describes the one-year course as a significant stepping stone for him.

“What I liked about the foundation programme was that it allowed me to gain the fundamentals I needed for my degree.

The course helped me shape my thoughts and attitude to adapt to university life.

“All of the foundation modules proved to be useful in my degree. For instance, the knowledge I gained from the economics module has been very crucial in several of my real estate modules,” he says.

Prof Teck Yong Eng, head of Henley Business School Malaysia, shares that students are taught by an international team of experts who apply innovative teaching methods and ensure that students are up to date with the latest trends in their respective disciplines.

“Our research-led teaching means that we emphasise current knowledge, which is achieved through objective research using scientific methods. Many business schools only focus on teaching business, but we aim to create impact in the industry and be relevant to policymakers.

“Most of our lecturers have connections with industry captains, people in the financial and real estate fields, and small-tomedium enterprises. This puts them in a position to influence decision makers of the industry,” says Prof Teck.
