This year’s Emmy-nominated TV shows and where to watch them.
EMMY nominations are in, and as we wait for the results to come out on Sept 17, let’s check the nominees out and see what the fuss is all about.
Below are some of the nominees (not all are shown in Malaysia currently) in the drama, comedy and limited series category and where you can watch them.
Outstanding Drama Series The Crown
The historical drama series which traces the life of Queen Elizabeth II has been nominated in this category twice but has not won before. Will it be The Crown’s turn to reign this year? Two seasons of The Crown are available on Netflix.
Game Of Thrones
Based on the fantasy novel series by George R. R. Martin, the global phenomenon that is Game Of Thrones is a medieval epic which sees its diverse cast of characters embark on journeys filled with war, love and loss. The show has won in this category twice. Seven seasons of Game Of Thrones are available on On Demand VOD by Astro.
Stranger Things
Set in a small town in the 1980s, Stranger Things explores the disappearance of a young boy and the supernatural forces behind it. The sci-fi horror series was nominated once in this category last year but did not win. Two seasons of Stranger Things are available on Netflix.
This Is Us
Family relationships are complicated and not many shows have been able to capture its complexities quite like the emotionally-charged This Is Us. The family drama was nominated once in this category last year but did not win. Season One of This Is Us is available on Amazon Prime Video.
Westworld
Based on the 1973 film of the same name, Westworld centres on the goings-on in an amusement park comprising android hosts who are created to cater to its high-paying guests’ every whim and fancy. The series was nominated once in this category last year but did not win. Two seasons of Westworld are available on On Demand VOD by Astro. Outstanding Comedy Series Barry
In Barry, the titular character is a hitman who wants to turn over a new leaf and pursue an acting career. This is the dark comedy series’ first Emmy nomination. Barry is available on On Demand VOD by Astro.
Curb Your Enthusiasm
After going on a six-year hiatus, Curb Your Enthusiasm – which focuses on the life of a TV writer – returns for its ninth season last year and earned an Emmy nom in this category. The show has garnered seven nominations previously but has never won. Nine seasons of Curb Your Enthusiasm are available on On Demand VOD by Astro.
Glow
Struggling to find work as an actress, Ruth joins a professional female wrestling show, Gorgeous Ladies Of Wrestling (GLOW), and faces all kinds of trials, both in and out of the ring. This is the 1980s-set comedy series first nomination in this category. Two seasons of Glow are available on Netflix.
The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel
A housewife living in New York in the 1950s has her world turned upside down when her husband decides to leave her. She unexpectedly begins to find her footing as a stand-up comedian. This is the show’s first Emmy nomination in the category. It won a Golden Globe for Best Television Series – Musical Or Comedy earlier in the year. The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel is available on Amazon Prime Video.
Silicon Valley
A group of young adults try their luck in the tech industry in this five-time outstanding comedy series Emmy-nominee. Five seasons of Silicon Valley are available on On Demand VOD by Astro.
Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt
After getting kidnapped and trapped in a bunker for 15 years, the ever-positive Kimmy Schmidt puts the past behind her and begins her new life in New York in this chirpy series. This is the show’s fourth nomination in the category. Four seasons of Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt are available on Netflix.

Outstanding Limited Series The Alienist
Criminal psychologist Dr Laszlo Kreizler leads a team to try to uncover the truth behind the murder of a string of street children in the 1890s. The Alienist is available on Netflix.
Godless
A mining town in New Mexico is run by women after most of its men died in a mining accident. Godless is available on Netflix.
Patrick Melrose
The titular character’s childhood was shattered by an abusive parent. Years later, he finds a way to pick up the pieces as an adult through very destructive ways. Patrick Melrose airs every Wednesday at 8am on BBC First (unifi TV Ch 481) and is also available on the BBC Player.
