Alleviating sinus woes
SEAN has been struggling with his sensitive, “sinus”-prone nose since primary school.
At the age of 13, he finds it difficult to focus in class as his nose causes him to sneeze and becomes runny.
Sean’s mother also noticed he has not slept well as he suffers from blocked nose at night.
She has tried using antihistamines, nasal sprays and a dehumidifier but his problems keep recurring.
Hypersensitive immune system
Unknown to many people, it is not dust or the air conditioner that gives rise to “sinus” problems as these are mere triggers.
The root of the problem is allergic rhinitis – a hypersensitive immune system.
A nose linked to a hypersensitive immune system hyper reacts to even small amounts of dust or temperature changes in the environment that will not affect an average person.
A sensitive nose is easily inflamed, causing sneezing, a runny or congested nose.
The eyes will also become itchy, red, teary, the ears will have frequent infections and the throat will end up with a dry cough. When the nose is runny, the risk of catching an infection is increased.
When the immune system is busy dealing with sensitivity issues, it is not working optimally to protect the body from germs.
The Journal Allergy and Asthma Proceedings reported in 2007 that children suffering sinusitis experience sleep disturbances, compromised learning performance, behaviour and attention deficits besides reduced participation in social activities.
Herbal immunotherapy
Lectranal is a natural, activated astragalus root extract formulated by scientists at the Ruder Boskovic Centre in Zagreb, Croatia.
Research published in the journal Phytotherapy Research showed Lectranal’s ability to help relieve sinusitis after a treatment duration of two months.
Lectranal is different from medications like antihistamines and steroidal nasal sprays as it can modulate the hypersensitive immune system back to normal functioning mode.
It helps calm hypersensitive immune systems from going outof-control when encountering allergens like dust, pollen, certain foods or temperature changes.
The patient’s nose eventually learns to differentiate between harmful and harmless substances present in the environment and not hyperreact indiscriminately as before.
The recommended dose is one capsule of Lectranal twice a day.
Patients should be aware that the benefits will not happen immediately as the actions of modulating the immune system will take time.
Should symptoms be uncomfortable, patients' regular medicines should still be taken in the beginning.
After a period of about eight weeks, patients should see a reduction in the frequency and severity of symptoms. Many users have reported being able to smell again, breathe better and have sounder sleep.
Breath of change
Sean was assured by a pharmacist of Lectranal’s track record and good safety profile.
After a month, his condition did not change but he was advised to continue as healing takes time.
Closer to two months later, Sean realised the symptoms have lessened.
In fact, he told his mother one day how good her baking smelt – something he was not able to do for a while.
