The latest Subaru XV, built upon the Japanese carmaker’s Global Platform which is 70% more rigid than before, is now able to deliver a smoother ride thanks to the great reduction in vibration, body-roll and noise to help boost its performance and fun factor with a new 2.0-litre direct injection naturally-aspirated four-cylinder boxer engine.
The Subaru XV is available in two variants starting with the entry-level 2.0i and a range-topping 2.0i-P, both being priced on-the-road with 0% GST without insurance and SST at RM112,138 and RM118,788 respectively.
Available colours include six choices of Sunshine Orange, Dark Blue Pearl, Pure White, Ice Silver Metallic, Dark Grey Metallic and Crystal Black Silica.
The Subaru XV features a distinctive rugged and sporty design that incorporates the company’s new DYNAMIC x SOLID design philosophy that brings the Japanese carmaker’s aesthetic designs to the next level with detailed finishes on the exterior and interior.
Externally, the Subaru XV features an iconic hexagonal grille with C-shaped headlights, matteblack cladding on the front bumper and a new aluminium wheel design. It sits stationary at 220mm off the ground with a lower and wider stance that underline’s it’s rugged styling and superior aerodynamics.
The Subaru XV’s steering responsiveness stems from a quicker steering ratio from before and coupling that to a low centre of gravity, it provides its driver with greater improved straight-line stability.
Under the hood, the new 156hp 2.0-litre engine has been revamped to become approximately 12kg lighter than before and has been mated to a familiar-yet-lighter Lineartronic continuously variable transmission (CVT) that saves 7.8kg and still features a seven-speed manual mode to manage power delivery to the Symmetrical All-Wheel-Drive system with X-Mode.
Inside, the class-leading spacious and sporty-yet-refined cabin is accorded with an 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with navigation and smartphone connectivity as well as improved allround visibility, cabin space and cargo room.
For safety, the XV has been awarded the full five-star rating from Japan New Car Assessment Program (JNCAP) Collision Safety Performance Assessment, thanks to the inclusion of seven airbags, Steering Responsive Headlights (2.0i-P only) and Hill Descent Control among others.
For passive safety, the Subaru XV’s body has an improved energy absorption in the event of collision by 40% over present models thanks to the predominant use of high-tensile steel.
