Celebration of Malaysia
Bars of chocolate, a little Kopi-C and lots of Lat.
WHAT better way to celebrate the nation’s culture than the introduction of a chocolate flavour that is a staple in Malaysian lives?
Confectionery-maker Cadbury recently announced an exciting new flavour, Kopi-C, in light of its ongoing theme “bringing joy through food”.
Housed under Mondelez International (Mondelez), the brand introduced this new product as its first ever localised limited-edition flavour exclusively made for the Malaysian market.
The flavour is synonymous with one of Malaysia’s simplest delights, that can be found everywhere, from a kopitiam to neighbourhood cafe.
The brand has cleverly collaborated with iconic Malaysian cartoonist Datuk Lat, who has given a new lease to the packaging with his hand-drawn illustrations. Lat’s drawings, after all, symbolise the very essence of Malaysian culture.
“Through the years, my drawings have always captured the essence of our life and it has been a great honour to share the spirit of togetherness,” said Datuk Lat, expressing his excitement to collaborate with the brand.
He features the Kampung Boy himself, depicting the various stages of his life from boyhood to being a man in typical Malaysian scenarios –at a kenduri (a gathering of a community), a kopitiam (Malaysian traditional coffee shop) and a kedai runcit (local sundry shop).
Mondelez Malaysia Chocolates Category Manager Nikhil Nocholas emphasised that it was the perfect moment for the company to commemorate its presence by presenting the flavours that make the nation.
“Cadbury and Kopi-C represent the seamless integration of global and local iconic flavours. We hope that our latest flavour continues to delight the taste buds of our local consumers from the young to the old.”
The new Cadbury Milk Kopi-C is now available in major hypermarkets and supermarkets nationwide until Sept 30th. A limited-edition gift box featuring Datuk Lat’s illustrations are available exclusively on Shopee for RM37. – Chichi Chakaipa
