THIRTEEN-year old Ming has been suffering from a sensitive nose for the last five years. To relieve his symptoms, his family tried several options such as antihistamines, nasal sprays and even bought a dehumidifier but the “sinus” problem persisted and Ming would end up with a fever and cough. The amount of antibiotics he has taken alone this year is rather alarming.

Hypersensitive immune system

The root of “sinus” or its medical term allergic rhinitis, is a hypersensitive immune system. A nose linked to a hypersensitive immune system hyper reacts to even small amounts of dust or temperature changes in the environment.

A battle with “sinus” is often a long-drawn one, as the issue will not resolve on its own. It has been estimated that sinusitis affects about 20% of the population and up to 40% of children.

The Allergy and Asthma Proceedings journal reported in 2007 that children suffering sinusitis experience sleep disturbances, compromised learning performance, behaviour and attention deficits, besides reduced participation in social activities.

Although drugs such as antihistamines and steroidal nasal sprays are helpful to treat sinus symptoms, these medications do not address the root of a hypersensitive immune system. Many suffering from sinusitis simply live with their condition.

The advent of naturopathic science however, is proof that it is possible to regain a normal nose.

Lectranal is a natural, activated astragalus root extract formulated by scientists at the Ruder Boskovic Centre in Zagreb, Croatia.

Research published in the Phytotherapy Research journal demonstrated its ability to help relief sinusitis after two months.

What is different about Lectranal is its ability to modulate the hypersensitive immune system back to a normal functioning mode.

Essentially, Lectranal helps to calm a hypersensitive immune systems from spiralling out of control every time it encounters an allergen.

On top of that, Lectranal also prompts the immune system to be able to differentiate between harmful and harmless substances present in the environment and not hyper-react indiscriminately as before.

The recommended dose is one capsule of Lectranal twice a day. Patients should take note that the effects are not immediate as modulating the immune system will take time.

Should the symptoms be unbearable, patients should continue taking their regular medication in the beginning.

After about eight weeks, clinical studies indicate that about 70% of patients experience a reduction in the frequency and severity of their symptoms.

Journey to recovery

Ming’s mother was introduced to Lectranal by a parent from Ming’s school. After a month on Lectranal, she was slightly disappointed that Ming’s condition did not improve much.

However, she opted to continue with the treatment. About two months later, she noticed something missing – the familiar sound of Ming clearing his nose in the morning.

Ming’s stuffy nose gradually unclogged and he did not suffer from any allergy reaction even while his mother did some cleaning around the house.

Not only that, Ming’s appetite also improved, as he could now smell the mouth-watering aroma of food wafting in the air.
