FANS of Park Min-young’s hit television drama, What’s Wrong With Secretary Kim?, may be pleased to know that the South Korean actress is keen to star in more romantic comedies.

In a recent interview, the 32-year-old said she had so much fun on the set of the show that she would love to do many more series of the same genre.

Before What’s Wrong With Secretary Kim?, which allowed her to tap her comedy talent, Park was better known for more serious roles in series such as historical drama Sungkyunkwan Scandal (2010) and newsroom thriller Healer (2014-2015).

“I don’t know if it was because the show was my first romantic comedy or whether it was just this specific drama, but I had so much fun every day.

“Everyone would be joking around and having a good time together. Rather than think about my character, I would think about how to make the scene funnier,” she said in a mix of Korean and English.

Not that she is averse to signing on to other kinds of dramas though.

“I don’t want to be constrained by the genre of a show. I want to be able to play all sorts of roles in all sorts of dramas,” she said.

Park was recently in Singapore to attend a press event to launch a mobile phone. The actress is one of the hottest stars at the moment, thanks to the success of What’s Wrong With Secretary Kim?, where she plays a smart office secretary who develops a romance with her narcissistic boss, played by Park Seo-jun.

Her role of Kim Mi-so in the show won over audiences for being beautiful and intelligent, as well as for the funny antics she gets up to with her usually aloof boss.

The actress said: “It was fun, but I had to master all the jargon used by secretaries. Also, a secretary has to have very good posture, so I had to learn how to stand really straight all the time.”

How addicted are you to your mobile phone?

Very addicted. I feel like I am at a loss whenever I don’t have it with me. I need to learn how to not live with it for even just one day.

What is the most frequently used app on your phone?

I think it’s Instagram. I like to share photos of my life and let my fans know what I’m up to. I like taking photos and looking at other nice pictures too, so I use Instagram a lot. Do you personally monitor your social media accounts?

I do. Besides Instagram, I also have Weibo. I actually search for my name on social media a lot because I take lots of selfies with fans when I’m out and travelling, so I want to see what they post about me.

Do you see yourself acting for a long time?

When I started out more than 10 years ago, I have to admit that I didn’t think I would stay on for this long. But I love what I do, so I would like to keep acting for the next 10 years. Even if I get married and have children, I will continue acting.

You starred in Chinese historical drama Braveness Of The Ming (2016). Would you want to work in China again?

Yes. I really enjoyed that filming experience in China. I hung out with my co-stars and we went to sing karaoke together. There were a few challenges, such as the language barrier, and it was really hot in Hengdian, where we filmed, but otherwise I had a great time.

You always look like you have perfect skin. What is your secret?

As an actress, I have to wear makeup for long hours, sometimes for up to 24 hours, so my skin gets dry very quickEvery ly. time I get a break, even a short one, I will remove all of the make-up. I also wear two or three masks every day.

How would you like to be remembered?

I would like to be remembered for my roles, rather than for myself. For example, it will be nice if people remember the character Kim Mi-so even years from now. – The Straits Times/ Asia News
