An American fashion designer works with a Japanese beauty company to create luxurious cosmetics.
WANT to be known as the “Jill Girls”? You now have that opportunity as Jill Stuart Beauty has arrived in Malaysia.
Jill Stuart Beauty – a Japanese-based beauty brand – created by New Yorkbased fashion designer Jill Stuart and Kose Corporation offers a range of chic and sparkly makeup products embellished with Swarovski crytals, that will definitely raise envious eyebrows when it’s whipped out of your bag.
“Jill Stuart Beauty embraces and embodies the dual nature of women, the pureness of youthful glow and also the vibrancy of an adult matured woman, two traits which makes a woman look most beautiful,” says Reiko Sekita, beauty manager for Jill Stuart Beauty at the recent launch in Kuala Lumpur .
At 15, Stuart introduced her first collection of jewellery and handbags at Bloomingdales, one of America’s premier department stores, and at only 23 she opened her first outlet in 1988, an Upper East Side boutique that focused on belts and handbags.
At 27 she established her own namesake fashion line and opened her flagship store in New York’s SoHo district, where she unveiled the Jill Stuart 1993 New York collection.
“With support from young girls especially all over the world, the brand coined the phrase “Jill Girls” for all these ladies who are fans of her brand,” says Sekita.
In 2005, a decade after the launch of her brand, Stuart launched the Jill Stuart cosmetics line in Japan.
“A lover of all things Japan, Jill thought that if she were to establish a cosmetics line she would have to create it in Japan, hence, the birth of the Jill Stuart Beauty brand that is made in Japan,” says Sekita.

Stuart Beauty is about creating the ultimate kawaii-ness (cuteness in Japanese) of a woman. Being an avid vintage collector influenced the packaging design inspired by vintage jewellery that is sparkly with a touch of transparency. Also, Jill favours two shades of pink which are found on the products that bring out the femininity and kawaii-ness that represents the Jill Stuart Beauty world,” she says.
The Jill Stuart Beauty line includes the best-selling Mix Blush Compact, Ribbon Couture Eyes and the favourite of many, the Lip Blossom Velvet.
The brand takes pride in the quality of its ingredients and its signature ingredients include rosemary extracts and rosehip oil, which provides anti-ageing effects, lavender oil which calms and eases inflammation, and wild rose which hydrates skin and inhibit ageing of the skin.
Sekita points out that the brand targets women in their 20s but it’s also appealing to women from the age of 30 and above.
She says that the brand hopes Malaysian women will love Jill Stuart Beauty because they believe that Malaysian women are very stylish, busy go-getters and also very feminine in many ways.
“We believe that they will respond well to Jill Stuart Beauty and embrace the brand once they have experienced our best-selling products at Sephora Suria KLCC. We are also very happy to work with Sephora as they will carry our product exclusively,” Sekita says.
