AUSTRALIA and New Zealand are among the top destinations for Malaysian students when it comes to pursuing further education abroad. Both countries are just five to eight hours away by plane, which is nearer compared to the UK (about 14 hours) and the United States (15-18 hours).

There are also a wide variety of courses offered, including master’s degrees, PhD, certificate, foundation and diploma courses, bachelor’s degrees and vocational courses.

Besides that, they have world-renowned universities. Eight top universities in New Zealand are included among the world’s best in the QS World University Rankings 2018, five of which are in the global top 300.

The University of Auckland, University of Otago and University of Canterbury are in the global top 250, and the University of Auckland is consistently the highest-ranked of these top universities.

As for Australia, there is the Group of Eight, which comprises eight of Australia’s leading research-intensive universities. There are many other popular study destinations as well, such as Griffith University in Gold Coast, Murdoch University in Perth, University of Newcastle in Sydney and University of Tasmania in Tasmania.

Also, both countries are considered among the most liveable places in the world. According to Economist Intelligence Unit’s ranking of the world’s most liveable cities in 2018, Australia has three cities – Melbourne, Sydney and Adelaide – in the top 10, while New Zealand’s Auckland is also on the list.
