Elevate every moment

-

EARMARKED as the leading destination of KL South with its cutting-edge architecture and Neo-futuristic facade, Sunway Velocity Mall is like a breath of fresh air to the KL mall scene.

Designed around the needs of an increasingly diverse consumer market, the mall offers not just shopping but also compelling experiences that are second to none.

“Hanging out at the mall” takes on an entirely new connotation when it comes to Sunway Velocity Mall which is part of the integrated development of Sunway Velocity in Cheras by the Sunway Group.

Spanning 1 million sq ft across seven levels, the mall is positioned to provide shoppers with a whole new immersive sophistication with over 400 retail outlets, 150 F&B stores, and an array of entertainment and recreational facilities.

“Since opening in December 2016, we have strived to constantly bring in the ideal balance to our tenant mix, improving the depth and breadth of the offerings in ensuring our shoppers are delighted with the lifestyle experience we deliver.

“We have carefully crafted the mix and niche position of the mall to elevate the lifestyle of the KL South market, in particular Cheras,” said the mall’s senior general manager K.S. Wong.

The mall, he added, is today a popular family destination offering many first-ever concept stores, namely Original Cake, Harvey Norman Duplex and Marks & Spencer.

Housed within are also the first AEON MaxValu Prime supermarket in the country after Japan and Hong Kong, the biggest IMAX screen in Malaysia for TGV Cinemas, and the retail community precinct of Commune.

Commune at Level 5, featuring a collection of niche shops in a community-driven green zone, is one of the three uniquely-themed precincts within the mall.

It is a 100% up-cycled (repurposed) precinct constructed using only recycled building materials and contents sourced from all over Malaysia. It is also a functional space that cultivates creativity and culture where artisans come together as a community by supporting one another.

The others are the Marketplace (a European-inspired bazaar providing daily essentials and eateries) and Food Street Food (hawker stalls offering a wide variety of local and regional delicacies).

True to its tagline of ‘elevate every moment’, the mall is poised to not only transform KL South but also to set a new benchmark for shopping and entertainment.

Wong said to further complement Sunway Velocity Mall are a 14-storey office block and the 351-room Sunway Velocity Hotel, both of which sit atop the mall with direct access to one another.

“Adding to the components is the soon-to-be opened Sunway Medical Centre while the two-acre Central Park is covered with lush landscaping, water features, a playground and jogging track to encourage a healthy lifestyle.”

Built with connectivity in mind, the mall has direct links to the Cochrane MRT Station as well as the Maluri MRT and LRT Interchange Station. Covered link bridge walkways enable pedestrians to move with ease between the stations.

Given all these outstanding features, Sunway Velocity Mall was accorded the honour to take home the FIABCI Malaysia Property Award 2018 under the Retail category.

“We are ecstatic to have won the ‘Oscar’ of the property/retail industry! The award is a recognition of the years of hard and good work put in by my staff and peers.

“Our team has worked diligently to ensure the mall is managed and maintained to the standard and quality that we are known for and our customers accustomed to.

“Under the stable of Sunway Malls, we upkeep our assets to the highest standards of quality and excellence, which is one of the Group’s core values,” he enthused.

The mall of the future Embracing a consumer-driven future, Sunway Velocity Mall engages shoppers throughout their visits by seamlessly integrating commerce with entertainment and leisure.

The futuristic architecture is a sight to behold. Reaffirming that intelligent design can elevate lifestyle to new heights, the stunning structure beckons you to explore within.

Wong said the mall was designed with an iconic globe called the ‘KL Orb’ featuring multi-coloured aluminium panels interspersed with colourful LED panels, adding a new dynamism to the Jalan Cheras and Jalan Peel intersection.

“This signature orb was recognised by the Malaysia Book of Records as the ‘Biggest Multiple Layer Advertising LED Panel’ at 765sq m,” he added.

Encapsulating the Group’s ambition and aspiration for the Cheras community, he said the mall’s architects drew inspiration from the illuminated Renaissance Globe.

The Renaissance Age, also hailed as the Age of Discovery, marked the transition from the Middle Ages to the modern era. The integration of the globe into the design was both a physical symbol as well as a homage to the potential of the Cheras community.

The globe is placed at the bow of a vessel-like structure, reminiscent of the sailing ship which forms the details of the Renaissance Globe.

The ship design symbolises Sunway’s beckoning to the community to come on board a new journey - the co-creation of a ‘new Cheras’ that Sunway wishes to embark on with the community.

“We see this as the coming of age for Cheras. This site was the backwater of the area with derelict shops before Sunway Velocity Mall.

“For a long time, Cheras/KL South lacked a good class shopping, entertainment and leisure destination with modern services, facilities and amenities that uplift lifestyle and elevate the experiences of people here.

“This is what we mean through our ‘elevate every moment’ tagline as we continue aiming to elevate and upgrade the lifestyle of the surrounding communities,” he said.

Sunway Velocity Mall is positioned as a lifestyle mall catering to the middle to middle-upper segment of the market and skewed towards families and the community.

The layout of the mall’s outlets is designed according to the external spherical orb, creating a unique and interesting space that is convenient, safe and enjoyable.

The contemporary interior is such that there are no secondary corridors to accord all outlets a premium frontage. Along the entire mall, shops are placed in an easily understandable manner to establish strong shopper flows.

A key feature of the mall is the wide emphasis on natural lighting coupled with the environmental friendly Commune on Level 5.

Sunway’s emphasis on safe shopping environments is another key competitive advantage with the mall equipped with 24-hour security and surveillance.

Wong said every mall under Sunway Malls has a distinct architectural accent. Sunway Velocity Mall is the second venture into KL after Sunway Putra Mall while there is also Sunway Pyramid in Petaling Jaya.

“Sunway Pyramid is very much Egyptian-inspired, Sunway Putra Mall has the Diamond Drop and Sunway Velocity Mall is all about the accent of movements, thus, the spiralling Orb,” he concluded.

Sunway Velocity

Sunway Velocity Mall is a joint venture project between Sunway Berhad and its second intermediate holding company, Fawanis Sdn Bhd.

Incorporated in 1977, Fawanis is a wholly owned family company of the late Tan Sri Ibrahim Mohamed.

The 23-acre Sunway Velocity is the only new integrated development of its kind within KL South to encapsulate the five key components of Retail, Healthcare, Residential, Hospitality, Education & Commercial.

Here lies a dynamic hub where everything is within reach in one captivating destination to deliver a seamless experience of shop, dine, work and unwind.

“Being a holistic undertaking with the elements of retail, residential and hospitality already in full swing, and education and healthcare still to come along with Sunway Velocity Two, the development is well positioned to become a ‘City of Endless Possibilities’ for communities in and out of Cheras,” said Wong.

Sunway Velocity is also a TransitOriented development (TOD) - a concept of creating vibrant and sustainable communities with well-connected transportation links.

All components here are seamlessly connected to be within walking distance of each other. Access to the Cochrane Underground MRT Station and Maluri MRT and LRT Underground Interchange is via dedicated pedestrian linkways.

The development is located only 3km from the KL City Centre with excellent accessibility to major roads and highways. It is also conveniently located near to KLCC, Bukit Bintang, Golden Triangle, IKEA Cheras, Royal Selangor Golf Club and AEON Maluri.

Sunway Group

With an established reputation of developing innovative residential, commercial and retail properties, Sunway needs no further introduction. Besides Malaysia, it also has presence in Singapore, China, India and Australia.

As a Master Community Developer, it continues to build connected communities where people live, learn, work and play, stay healthy and safe.

Through its unique “Build-Own-Operate” business model, the Group operates the entire property value chain to create a win-win proposition for all stakeholders.

This successful business model has powered the growth of sustainable communities and integrated townships of Sunway City in Selangor, Sunway Damansara in Petaling Jaya, Sunway Velocity in Cheras, Sunway City Ipoh and Sunway Iskandar in Johor.

To date, the property division has delivered more than 25,000 units with a gross development value (GDV) of more than RM25bil.

Sunway also continues to coinvest in the townships by owning and managing some of the components, improving infrastructure and ensuring a safe community.

Besides developing awardwinning townships, it also offers unique stand-alone developments such as Kiara Hills, Sunway Palazzio, Sunway Vivaldi, Sunway Montana and Sunway Eastwood.
