THE Embracing Life With Love And Hope concert, the latest instalment of the All About Love (AAL) community choir annual benefit series, takes place at The Play Haus, Pearl Point Shopping Mall in KL on Dec 2.

This year, the concert will raise funds for the Selangor and Federal Territory Association for the Mentally Handicapped (SAMH).

The association, initially called the Selangor Association for Retarded Children, was established on July 27, 1964, as a non-profit voluntary body, run by a group of parents who came together in search of educational opportunities for their special needs children.

By 1974, the name was changed to the Selangor and Federal Territory Association for Retarded Children and later to its current name SAMH.

AAL will showcase a diverse line-up of singers and musicians.

The music genres will span pop, folk and choral favourites. You can also expect the concert setlist to be a heartwarming one for this SAMH benefit.

“There will be a broad age range of performers involved. We even have an eight-year-old playing the ukulele. For this show, we have got cultural folk songs and a special medley of Malaysian classics, arranged by one of our members,” says Hoo Sim Li, one of the founders of the AAL community choir, alongside Aaron Lee and Cedric Tan.

This year the choir will be performing a mix of pop classics (going right back to Judy Garland’s Over the Rainbow), as well as crowd-pleasing tunes from recent movies, such as Remember Me from computer-animated fantasy film Coco and This Is Me from The Greatest Showman.

“The diverse range of music for the night also reflects the musical interests and backgrounds of the choir members!” says Tan.

The choir features a cast of amateur music enthusiasts and professional musicians.

The AAL benefit concert series, which first started in 2014, has raised funds for various beneficiaries, including Make-A-Wish Malaysia, the Breast Cancer Welfare Association (BCWA) Malaysia and the National Stroke Association of Malaysia (NASAM). Embracing Life With Love And Hope is on at The Play Haus, Pearl Point Shopping Mall, Old Klang Road, Kuala Lumpur on Dec 2. Showtime: 8pm. Ticket price: RM50. More details: www.ticket2u.com.my.
