Final journey
Robin Wright directs the final episode of House Of Cards.
ROBIN Wright (pic) was in Singapore as part of the Netflix: See What’s Next Asia two-day event, where she talked about the final season of the series House Of Cards.
The actress, who portrays Claire Underwood in the political drama for six seasons, served as the director for the final episode.
“I am focusing on directing, and putting acting aside for now. I am hoping to direct films,” she said in an interview on Nov 8.
According to her, everyone has aged together on the series and become a family. “To be given a chance to direct and to learn how to direct with a family, provided me with a safety net.”
One of the things Wright discovered while directing is that David Fincher created a certain style for the show when he helmed the pilot.
“We have to use certain lens and we can never use the colour red,” she explained.
Other than her “family” what will she miss about the show?
“I will miss her clothes and shoes,” said Wright with a smile. Over the course of the series Claire’s style has been talked about as much as her political ruthlessness she ascended to the position of President of the United States.
For the past five seasons, Kevin Spacey played the other half of the power couple. Spacey’s character was killed in the series (there is an actual gravesite too!).
The actor was fired from the series over sexual assault allegations that surfaced last year.
It was said the script had to be reworked for the final season after the firing.
Spacey’s name wasn’t mentioned during the panel session.
Wright however added: “We always knew she was going to be more ruthless and conniving (than her husband). ‘I got your back and you got mine. The minute you don’t you’re dead’.
“That has always been the template.”
