CURTIN University Malaysia prides itself on offering courses, degrees and learning experiences identical to those offered at its parent campus in Perth, Australia, according to its pro-vice-chancellor, president and chief executive Prof Jim Mienczakowski.

Curtin University was ranked among the top 1% of universities in the highly acclaimed Academic Ranking of World Universities 2017 and is widely recognised for its industry-connected courses.

Curtin Malaysia offers bachelor’s degrees in popular fields such as accounting and finance, marketing and public relations, electrical and electronic engineering, petroleum engineering, environmental engineering, applied geology, construction management, software engineering, cybersecurity, and media studies.

The institution offers master’s and doctoral degrees in various fields as well as foundation courses that feed directly into its undergraduate programmes.

Prof Mienczakowski remarks that thanks to Curtin Malaysia’s global standing and reputation for producing quality, job-ready graduates, the university’s international students have been able to secure internship opportunities during their course of study and employment within Malaysia upon graduation.

“Our graduates are so highly sought after by multinational companies based in Malaysia that many of our international students have been offered employment even before they graduate,” he says.

He states several examples of such students, including civil and construction engineering graduate Seyed Omid Lame from Iran who is a technical specialist for Amserve Engineering, chemical engineering graduate Mulyani Basri from Indonesia who is a petrophysicist for Shell Malaysia, Sakinah Maharani from Indonesia who is a content review analyst for Accenture Malaysia, and computer systems and networking graduates Maulik Upala and Umika Battacharyya from India who are platform application engineers with Intel Malaysia.

Accounting graduate Araf Tarek from Bangladesh, who is part of an international team working for Kuala Lumpur-based Samurai Internet Sdn Bhd, is another example of an international graduate who secured a lucrative employment opportunity in Malaysia.

Araf pursued his internship at Samurai Internet Sdn Bhd in his final year at Curtin Malaysia and found that he enjoyed being in sales, so he applied for a permanent position at the company and was immediately offered a job upon graduation.

“I didn’t think it would be possible for an international student to get full-time employment right after graduating, but I tried my luck anyway. I guess the company was impressed by the qualifications and skills I acquired at Curtin Malaysia,” says Araf.

He shares that he thinks the country is amazing and has fallen in love with it.

“Malaysia is fairly well developed and its cost of living is relatively low. In addition, it offers lots of opportunities for international graduates and expatriate workers. Many companies offer expatriate employment packages that are attractive and worth considering,” he says.
