SEGi University’s Professional and Continuing Education (PACE) Online programme provides working adults with access to opportunities to build and advance their potential.

These working adults can gain qualifications that cater to global and local demands while obtaining the chance to secure work-life balance.

PACE Online offers programmes in in-demand fields such as business, education and communications.

At SEGi University, the blended learning approach offered in PACE Online programmes combines distance learning with workshops held once a month by lecturers who are industry experts. The workshops and web conferences provide invaluable learning support.

Jennifer Choo (pic), senior manager for PACE Online at SEGi University, shares that learners can learn on the go because they can access the materials anytime and anywhere using a mobile application called Blackboard.

Video conferencing sessions are conducted to provide face-to-face virtual interaction that supports the workshops held. These videos can be posted on Blackboard for learners to access anytime.

“In this digital age, innovative and out-ofthe-box methods are changing the way we teach and learn. Eighty per cent of students around the world are currently engaged in online learning. With PACE Online, we bring education to you.

“Study flexibly at your own pace and get the certification you have always dreamt of achieving without jeopardising your worklife balance,” says Choo, asserting that online learning is not the next big thing, but the current in thing.

In addition, those pursuing postgraduate programmes under PACE Online are assured of flexibility in learning and payment.

Adult learners are not burdened with rigid study structures. Instead, they are given the opportunity to personalise their study structure, enrolling in several subjects each semester that accommodate their busy schedules and financial constraints.

Examinations are open-book, moving away from rote learning – a memorisation technique based on repetition. Focus is given to application questions, tapping into the wealth of experience and maturity of thought of working adults.

Payment-wise, flexibility is made available by giving students the option of paying by module. Other than that, they can take up a flexi-payment scheme with zero interest or pay via Employees Provident Fund withdrawal.

Postgraduate programmes offered by PACE Online are the Master of Business Administration (MBA) in General Management and MBA in Global Business.

The MBA in General Management seeks to promote an understanding of core business and management disciplines, while the MBA in Global Business was designed to develop a theoretical understanding and critical awareness of the major strategic challenges facing today’s global business needs.

The entry requirement for PACE Online postgraduate programmes is a bachelor’s degree with a minimum CGPA of 2.5 or, if your CGPA is below 2.5, five or more years of working experience.

Besides postgraduate programmes, PACE Online also offers diploma and bachelor’s degree courses specialising in early childhood education, business administration, business management and mass communications.

PACE Online, which was initiated in 2014, now has regional centres in Johor Baru, Kuala Lumpur and Kuching.

To further cement the role of SEGi University’s PACE programmes in the Malaysian adult learning scene, a series of seminars are being held.

The seminars aim to attract adult learners, promote PACE Online and engage the public with the industry. Plans are underway to set up a regional centre in Penang.
