Building strong foundation for a career in medicine

EMBARKING on a medical career is a decision that cannot be taken lightly.

World-renowned medical school RCSI & UCD Malaysia Campus (RUMC) is providing an alternative in-road to medicine that removes all anxiety over this career option.

The Foundation in Science (FIS) is a unique pre-university pathway, allowing students to have an early introduction to the medical field before embarking on the fiveyear medical degree programme.

“FIS provides students with the added advantage of having the opportunity to engage not only their fellow coursemates, academics and doctors, but also their medical student seniors,” said RUMC Head of Foundation Studies Datin Dr Annie Foo.

“You will learn to apply the biosciences whilst gaining exposure to clinical and care-giving aspects of medical and healthcare professions before starting your degree.”

FIS student Muqri Hilman Ainul Hasnizam (pic) said the programme is systematic and reliable.

“I find RUMC to be one of the best platforms to start college, especially for those planning to go overseas.”

RUMC’s unique medical degree programme offers students a guaranteed place (upon fulfilling entry requirements) at either RCSI or UCD in Dublin, Ireland for the first two-and-a-half years.

During the programme, you remain with your friends and return to Penang for unrivalled access to patients in hospitals for the clinical teaching in the remaining two-and-a-half years.

With only one intake per year, full-time students can begin their pre-undergraduate path to medicine in May 2019. Tuition fees for FIS are RM30,000 and RM35,000 for Malaysian and foreign students respectively.

Entry requirements are 3As and 2Bs in Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, or Additional Mathematics and one other subject for SPM/O-Level.

Unified Examinations Certificate (UEC) students who score B4 in Biology, Chemistry, Physics, or Mathematics or Advanced Mathematics are also eligible.
