Outspoken and multilingual
SELANGOR LEGISLATIVE assembly Speaker Ng Suee Lim is one of the longest-serving state assemblyman in Selangor. He first won the Sekinchan seat in 2004, making him a four-term assemblyman for the constituency, which falls under the Tanjong Karang parliamentary constituency.
Besides having the talent of making people laugh, Ng is also known for his ability to speak Javanese as fluently as his mother tongue is Hokkien. He has always been vocal during debates, even when he was not yet the Speaker. Whatever he says, regardless of its seriousness, is more often than not laced with humour.
This stance has made the previous Opposition chiefs in the state assembly laugh on many occasions, even if they were involved in heated debates with Ng.
Ng was appointed as the Speaker of the Selangor Legislative Assembly following the May 9 general election. The Speaker said as a four-term assemblyman, he is well aware that state Ruler Sultan
Ng is known for his ability to speak Javanese as fluently as his mother tongue Hokkien. He is also vocal during debates.
Sharafuddin Idris Shah expects the best from the state administration.
“Tuanku wants everything to be done accordingly without any long-standing practices and traditions being compromised,” said Ng.
He added that Sultan Sharafuddin had also made it clear that he did not want short cuts and strictly expected age-old customary practices and conventions to be maintained.
Ng said Sultan Sharafuddin is also an astute person who keeps up with current issues in the state.
“Whatever he is displeased with, Tuanku will definitely speak up and correct what went wrong,” said Ng.
