ONE of the best things about attending an anime and comic convention is meeting cosplay fans from all around the country ... and the world! The much-anticipated inaugural Star Supa Comic event, which will take place at the Mid Valley Exhibition Centre, Kuala Lumpur on Dec 29 and 30, promises a cast of renowned international cosplayers, who have gained acclaim for their costumes and performances. Here’s a guide to the superstars who will be making guest appearances at Star Supa Comic.

Leon Chiro - Italy

This Italian cosplayer is well-known for his “fomento” attitude: living a life full of energy and dynamism. When not in costume, Chiro is a bartender, photo model and student. When in costume, he’s considered a top list cosplayer in the worldwide male cosplay community.

Chiro has been invited as a guest cosplayer for more then 80 events in more than 30 different countries around the world. This 27-year old cosplayer has also worked as an official cosplayer for game companies such as Ubisoft (Assassin’s Creed/Watch Dogs), Square Enix (Final Fantasy XV), Capcom (Devil May Cry), and Riot Games (League of Legends).

He also did promotional stunts for 20th Century Fox’s Assassin’s Creed film and was a cos-model for Rakan from Riot Game’s League Of Legends. Chiro has won a slew of awards for his cosplay skills, and was also represented Italy in the European Cosplay Gathering 2016 Finals at the Japan Expo.

Chiro makes most of his costumes by hand, except for parts which involve complicated sewing. He specialises in armour, weapons, accessories and makeup. He will attend an autograph signing session and a Boku No Hero gathering at Star Supa Comic, and will judge a cosplay competition on Dec 30 there.

Clarissa Punipun – Indonesia

This cosplayer of Japanese-Indian-Chinese ethnicity has been cosplaying since 2006. Jakarta-based Punipun, 26, is an IT programmer, crafter, pianist, cellist, drummer and gamer.

She’s also an amabassador for ASUS Republic of Gamers (ROG), a re:On Comics Official Cosplayer (Indonesia), Bandai Namco South-East Asia Official Influencer, NimoTV Official Host, and a Kurate Gakuen Moe Ambassador (Japan). She’s also been a guest cosplayer at more than 40 events across Indonesia, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand and Japan.

Punipun designs, creates and models her costumes herself. Her previous cosplays have included Amane Misa and Light Yagami from Death Note, Matoi Ryuko from Kill la Kill, Sinon from Sword Art Online II and Illyasviel von Einzbern from Fate Stay Night. She has an autograph signing session during Star Supa Comic, and will be performing there on Dec 29.

Onnies – Thailand

Believe it or not, this Thai-Chinese cosplayer discovered her love of her hobby through online games. When she was younger, she and her friend were huge fans of Pangya!, the online game. Her name is derived from her Thai nickname “On” which means cute. She tried to register that name for her online games, but it was too short. As a result, she added random letters to it, and Onnies was born.

Onnies was a representative of Thailand at the AFA Regional Cosplay Championship 2011 and was awarded with the 1st Runnerup prize for her cosplay of Lightning from Final Fantasy XIII-2. She has cosplayed both male and female characters, such as Miku and Luka from Vocaloid, Bayonetta from the game Bayonetta and Gai Tsutsugami from Guilty Crown. Onnies will have an autograph session during Star Supa Comic and will be judging a cosplay competition.

Kenneth ‘Lilaeroplane’ Ting – Singapore

This Singapore-based cosplayer has been on the scene since 2011. His cosplay roles include Spider-man and Deadpool, the Coolie from Kungfu Hustle, Gilgamesh from Fate Stay Night and Lee Sin from Riot Games’s League of Legends. His cosplay YouTube videos, which feature cosplay from the series Free! has over 2.4 million views. Ting worked as a performer in Universal Studios Singapore for six years, and is now a personal fitness trainer. His favourite anime series are Slam Dunk and Naruto, while his favourite games are World Of Warcraft and Counterstrike. Ting will have an autograph session during Star Supa Comic.

Star Supa Comic will take place at the Mid Valley Exhibition Centre, Kuala Lumpur on Dec 29 and 30.
