Something different
THE filmmakers and the cast of
Satte describe it as a little different than what audiences are used to in the thriller genre. It has gang fights, but there is also a missing gun.
Aiyavu (Lingeshvaran) is a young man with the only goal of becoming the next big gangster. But first Aiyavu must work with actual gangster Veerana (Senthil Kumaran), who is the henchman for his boss, Periya Anna (Haridhass).
Things start to get complicated when Aiyavu loses a murder weapon Veerana entrusted him with, after a night of drinking with his best friend, Mani (Kuben)
According to Muralikrishnan Munian, producer and co-director of Satte, the film is based on what’s happening within the Indian community in Malaysia. The word Satte is very much a Malaysian term for gang, he shared.
To ensure the film works on many levels, Muralikrishnan hired a reliable cast.
“Lingeshvaran was perfect fit as Aiyavu. For Mani, we had someone else in our mind, but it didn’t work out. Then Kuben came in. We have seen his performance in other movies, so we decided to go with him. Together, their chemistry was good, and the combination worked very well,” said Muralikrishnan.
“For Peria Anna, although a small role, we wanted someone with a strong presence as the character requires that. Haridass has that, (I know) as we have worked together in many projects before.” –
Satte opens in limited cinemas on thursday.
