FIRST City University College, formerly known as KBU International College, has produced thousands of successful entrepreneurs for almost 30 years.

In support of its mission in producing competitive graduates, the Faculty of Design and Built Environment offers a wide range of programmes in Art and Design, Graphic Design, Interior Design, Interior Architecture and Design, Furniture and Product Design, Fashion Marketing and Design Management.

Foundation in art and Design

This one-year programme provides a comprehensive art and design education, which develops skills in conceptual thinking, visual analysis, fundamental drawing, colour studies and critical writing. Students will gain experience in both theoretical and hands-on practical studio work. They will also develop creativity, visual awareness and the ability to be critically selective.

Diploma in Graphic Design

Students with a keen interest in computers and design will find this seven-semester programme the best of both worlds. It aims to introduce students to basic research and analysis of information, and equips them with the ability to evaluate ideas and deliver critical judgement.

Students are encouraged to develop personal visual skills and vision through hands-on practical multimedia projects.

Diploma in interior Design

For students with a passion for designing specific and focused spaces, the Diploma in Interior Design programme emphasises the fusion of conceptual thinking and practical interior design skills. It provides a better understanding of the structure of a building interior and its mechanics.

Students will navigate their studies with modern computer applications and design software.

Graduates can explore career opportunities in creative direction, illustration, editorial work, social media, exhibition and production, graphic and print publication, packaging and branding and identity design.

Graduates have a high chance of being employed by architectural firms, theatre and stage design studios, as well as interior, furniture, production and lighting design companies.

First City University College often organises design showcases, seminars and exhibitions that attract industry partners who often offer students employment on the spot. Final semester students enrolled in the diploma design programmes have an opportunity to present their design projects in the annual Diploma Graduation Showcase.

The enhancement of technology has resulted in a shift in design technology. The faculty keeps up with this rapid pace by offering modern equipment and state-of-the-art facilities.

Students have garnered accolades in various state, national and international competitions. In 2018, students from the Bachelor of Architecture and Interior Design and Diploma in Interior Design programmes won most of the titles in the Design category at the annual MIID Students’ Saturday competition organised by the Malaysian Institute of Interior Designers.

First City University College’s campus is ideally located in the modern township of Bandar Utama, Petaling Jaya, and is highly accessible via public transportation such as the MRT and LRT. A free shuttle bus service to First City UC is available at selected MRT and LRT stations.
