Nurturing extraordinary talent

-

From the upcoming merdeka PNB 118 to the world’s tallest skyscraper, Burj Khalifa, these structures represent the architect’s vision and concept, which is aesthetically pleasing yet functional.

Through these fascinating structures, we can see the importance of architects’ roles in developing not just a nation, but civilisation itself. To continue nurturing future builders for malaysia, Tunku Abdul rahman University College (TAr UC) has been providing architecture programmes for young aspiring architects for the past nine years.

The advent of the Diploma in Architecture in 2009 and subsequently, the Bachelor of Science in Architecture (Hons) in 2014 has opened doors to a professional education in architecture designed to cater to those who wish to pursue a career in architecture both locally and abroad.

Aspiring candidates with SPm or equivalent qualifications intending to pursue a tertiary education in architecture can choose to do the three-year Diploma in Architecture programme. Upon meeting the qualifying CGPA, students will be eligible for a credit transfer up to Year Two when they advance to the three-year Bachelor of Science in Architecture (Hons) programme, which has been accredited by the Board of Architects malaysia (LAm) as Part I of the professional programme in architecture.

This professional recognition will put candidates on a fast track towards the Part II professional master programme in architecture, allowing graduates to be registered professional architects upon passing the LAm Part III Professional Examinations after a minimum of two years working in a registered architectural practice.

TAr UC architecture graduate Tai Zhe Bin has achieved a lot since he joined the programme at TAr UC. In 2011, Tai enrolled in TAr UC’s Faculty of Built Environment (FoBE) for the Diploma in Architecture programme, followed by the completion of his Bachelor of Science in Architecture (Hons) degree.

Little did Tai realise that his academic journey at TAr UC would lead him to the prestigious Tsinghua University in Beijing, China, which is ranked as one of the Top 20 universities in the QS World University rankings 2019, third in the QS Asia University rankings 2019 and 22nd on the Times Higher Education World University rankings 2019, where he is currently studying for his master in Architecture and is expected to graduate this July.

Tai credited TAr UC for preparing him for the challenges at Tsinghua University.

“TAr UC helped me solidify my basics, so I’m able to focus on improving other aspects of my knowledge at Tsinghua University, where we focus more on idea creations and presentations under tight deadlines.

“TAr UC’s reputation for academic excellence and its affordable fees was why I chose this institution to further my studies back then. It was a very fruitful and memorable five years of learning. We gained knowledge and skills which are updated and relevant to the current industry demands so that we are able to adapt to future expectations of the industry.

“Studying at Tsinghua is also really exciting as I get more exposure and perspectives from people from different countries, as well as the regular sharing sessions with leading architects and reputable academicians throughout the semesters,” Tai explained.

An outstanding scholar, Tai will always be grateful to TAr UC and TAA for helping him get to where he is at now.

“Without the financial assistance via the TAr UC-TAA Scholarship, I don’t think I’d be able to make it to Tsinghua University today. For that, I’m very grateful.”

Tai is also confident that his education will help him secure a bright future with a top-notch international architecture firm.

“With a good education as my cornerstone, I hope to join a renowned international architecture firm in the near future. For now, I will work hard until I can achieve my dream of becoming a professional architect.”
